Demand for Valve’s new Steam Controller has moved far beyond available stock, and many new buyers may not get the device until 2027.
The company is still accepting reservations, but the current ordering window shows that delivery before 2026 is increasingly unlikely for many customers. Valve now groups estimated fulfillment into three broad ranges: by September 2026, by December 2026, or sometime in 2027.
What the waiting system looks like
Valve says the estimate is tied to the buyer’s country, so the timing shown on the reservation page is not the same for everyone. That means two customers may see different windows depending on where they place the order.
For buyers already in the queue, the page can show a more individual estimate. Valve says those earlier reservations may still be scheduled sooner, including before 2027 if they were made early enough.
Why the queue is so long
The Steam Controller is priced at $100, a level that might seem steep for some buyers. Even so, demand has remained strong and stock has been selling through quickly.
To make the situation easier to understand, Valve added a small tracker on the product page. It is designed to show prospective buyers when their order is likely to be fulfilled.
The company has also said that more specific timing for the 2027 group will be announced later. For now, the broader fulfillment windows are meant to simplify an unusually tight supply situation.
Reservation still matters, but only with patience
Customers can still reserve a unit and hold a place in line. Once a buyer’s turn arrives, Valve sends an email with a purchase link.
That link remains valid for only three days, which makes a quick response essential. Missing the deadline could mean losing the chance to buy the unit at that slot.
Valve’s system makes email monitoring just as important as the reservation itself. Buyers who wait too long after the notification arrives risk slipping past an opportunity they have already earned.
The current situation leaves little doubt about the scale of interest. Even with a $100 price tag, the new Steam Controller is drawing enough demand that many latecomers should be prepared for a wait that extends into 2027.
