Anbernic has moved the RG 55G1 from teaser territory into something far more tangible. A new hands-on video on YouTube shows a real unit rather than a render, giving a clearer look at the handheld’s design and layout.
The biggest takeaway is how closely the device follows a Switch Lite-style approach. Its front is covered by a full 2.5D glass panel, while the rest of the body is made of plastic.
Three color options are confirmed
The video also confirms that the RG 55G1 will come in three colorways. Those finishes are Retro Grey with colored ABXY buttons, Indigo, and Black.
| Colorway | Notable Detail | Design Note |
|---|---|---|
| Retro Grey | Colored ABXY buttons | Classic retro look |
| Indigo | Standard button layout | One of the announced finishes |
| Black | Standard button layout | Minimal, neutral finish |
Controls and physical layout follow a familiar pattern
Anbernic says the device uses dual-injection molded buttons, and the action buttons are arranged in a Switch-style layout. The D-pad sits above the left analog stick, which reinforces the handheld’s console-like design language.
Other controls are placed with practicality in mind. Power and volume buttons sit on the upper left side, while the microSD slot, a non-centered USB-C port, and the audio jack are positioned along the bottom edge.
Back design and hardware details are still limited
The rear of the RG 55G1 is mostly flat, with only the triggers protruding outward. That shape suggests the device could work well with an optional grip case for improved handling.
The video also shows the handheld in use, revealing Hall Effect thumbsticks and RGB lighting rings that illuminate while the device is operating. Those details make the unit look more refined than a simple early mock-up.
Even so, the most important questions remain unanswered for now. Anbernic has not revealed the official specifications or pricing, and those two factors will decide whether the RG 55G1 stands out as more than an appealing design exercise.
