Lenovo’s AI Student Phone For Kids Leaves Out Games And Social Media

Lenovo has launched a new phone called the AI Student Phone, a device aimed squarely at school-age children and built around learning rather than entertainment. Unlike most modern smartphones, it does not include games, a web browser, or social media apps.

Instead, Lenovo has loaded the device with AI-based learning tools, GPS tracking, and parental controls. The phone has been released in China with a price of 299 yuan, or around Rp 789.754.

A compact device built for study

Lenovo AI Student Phone is closer to a feature phone than a standard smartphone. It comes with a 1.83-inch touchscreen protected by Panda Glass and supports handwriting input.

The device also includes a 1,850 mAh battery and 4G connectivity. Lenovo says it does not require a special IoT SIM card, and it can be used for voice calls and HD video calls like a regular phone.

AI assistance for homework and general knowledge

The main feature is a physical AI button that activates a voice assistant. Through it, children can ask general knowledge questions or get help with homework assignments.

Lenovo also includes a learning library with math formulas and English vocabulary materials. With that setup, the AI Student Phone is designed as a study-focused device with no browsing access to the internet.

Tools for parents, not just children

The phone also gives parents several controls over how the device is used. It supports real-time location tracking through GPS and geofencing alerts that notify parents when a child enters or leaves a specific area, such as home or school.

A companion app lets parents manage the device remotely. They can block calls from unknown numbers, set automatic on and off schedules, and activate classroom mode during school hours.

When classroom mode is enabled, the phone only shows the time and allows SOS emergency calls. Lenovo also adds QR-code based payment support, allowing children to pay in stores while parents set spending limits and monitor transactions in the app.

The AI Student Phone comes with a detachable lanyard for easier carrying. In China, it is offered in three colors: orange-white, pink, and blue.
