Citizen has added two limited-edition Campanola watches that treat light as part of the design, not just the backdrop. Built around the Kōjō concept of radiant streaks from a bright source, both models pair layered dial effects with a full calendar and a mother-of-pearl moonphase.
The concept is most visible in the way the dials are constructed. A recessed layout gives the face more depth, while an inner bezel ring made from sapphire crystal sits above the dial and changes how the color is perceived depending on the viewing angle.
Two models, two distinct personalities
The new releases are the BU0020-71N and BU0024-02N. The BU0020-71N comes with a blue dial and is limited to 250 pieces, while the BU0024-02N uses a black dial with DLC coating and is limited to just 170 pieces.
Both watches are designed to express the Kōjō idea on the wrist, but they do so with slightly different moods. The blue model leans warmer and more classic, while the black DLC version pushes the same architecture into a darker and more exclusive direction.
| Model | Dial / Finish | Limit | Strap / Bracelet |
|---|---|---|---|
| BU0020-71N | Blue sunray dial, gold Roman numerals, gold hands | 250 pieces | Stainless steel bracelet |
| BU0024-02N | Black dial, gray sub-dial, black DLC-coated stainless steel case | 170 pieces | Leather strap |
Moonphase at 6 o’clock, full calendar above
The highlight on both models is the mother-of-pearl moonphase positioned at 6 o’clock. Citizen also includes a full calendar, with the date at 12 o’clock, day on the left, and month on the right.
That arrangement keeps the dial visually busy without losing the main decorative focus. Campanola appears to have used the layout to balance technical information with a refined, high-end appearance.
The different material choices reinforce that separation in character. The BU0020-71N combines a blue sunray dial, gold Roman numerals, gold hands, and a stainless steel bracelet, while the BU0024-02N uses a black dial, gray sub-dial, black DLC-coated stainless steel case, and leather strap.
Eco-Drive Ring Solar power under the surface
Power comes from Citizen’s 8730 Eco-Drive Ring Solar caliber. Instead of relying on a visible solar panel on the dial, the system collects light through a gap between the dial and the outer chapter ring.
That approach helps preserve the clean look of the dial and avoids disrupting the design with a conspicuous charging surface. It also fits the Kōjō theme, since the technical function is kept hidden within the watch’s construction.
Japan-only release, no price yet
Citizen says the two watches are Japan-market releases. The BU0024-02N also carries an individual number on the case back, which adds to its position as the more exclusive of the pair.
Pricing has not been announced. With their tight production numbers and strong visual identity, the two Campanola models are aimed at collectors who want a dress watch with a far more theatrical presence than usual.
