Sharp Indonesia has turned a running campaign into a direct conservation effort, with every step translated into tree planting at the Pusat Suaka Satwa Elang Jawa in Gunung Halimun Salak National Park, Bogor. Through Sharp Run for the Future, the company planted 600 Rasamala trees to help restore forest cover and support a habitat under pressure.
The initiative used a simple formula, one runner equals one tree, but the impact was designed to reach far beyond a sports challenge. The program targets the restoration of about 2.4 hectares of forest while also supporting the conservation area that shelters the endangered Javan hawk-eagle.
| Program Element | Details |
|---|---|
| Trees planted | 600 Rasamala |
| Planting location | Pusat Suaka Satwa Elang Jawa, Gunung Halimun Salak National Park, Bogor |
| Restoration area | About 2.4 hectares |
| Estimated carbon absorption | Up to 180 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent |
| Estimated oxygen output | About 60–72 tons per year |
Why Rasamala Was Chosen
The tree species selected for the campaign was Rasamala, or Altingia excelsa, an endemic species considered suitable for forest restoration. When fully grown, the 600 trees are projected to absorb up to 180 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent and produce around 60–72 tons of oxygen annually.
Sharp carried out the initiative with Hutan Itu Indonesia and Postinc, blending sport, technology, and sustainability in one conservation-oriented campaign. The company positioned the effort as part of its green technology commitment and its Environmental, Social, and Governance principles.
Technology Framed as Environmental Responsibility
President Director of PT Sharp Electronics Indonesia, Shinji Teraoka, said in a formal statement quoted by Suara.com that technology should not stop at serving people alone. He said every participant’s step had been turned into a tree that would grow for decades.
Teraoka also argued that sustainability should now be treated as a business strategy, not merely as a corporate social responsibility program. In that view, the campaign was meant to encourage more companies and communities to take part in environmental protection.
A Conservation Site with a Critical Role
The planting site was chosen because the Suaka Elang area functions as a rehabilitation center for the Javan hawk-eagle, an endemic Indonesian species and an indicator of forest ecosystem health. Along with planting trees, Sharp also handed over field equipment to support the conservation team.
Participants were also invited to take part in conservation education and visit the Javan hawk-eagle rehabilitation center. That approach kept the activity from becoming a one-day ceremony and instead linked it to a broader understanding of ecosystem balance.
Brand Activation With a Broader Social Goal
PR & Brand Communication Department Head of PT Sharp Electronics Indonesia, Pandu Setio, said the success of a campaign is no longer measured only by exposure. He stressed that a brand activation must create real impact for society and the environment.
Puteri Indonesia Lingkungan 2026, Vicky Kosasie, also joined the activity and encouraged younger people to begin with small actions. She described meaningful change as something that starts from simple steps taken together.
Sharp closed the program with the message that modern innovation should help build a greener, lower-carbon future. Under the slogan In Step With Your Future, the company said it wants to keep carrying that direction forward.
