Xiaomi has introduced the Redmi Kids Watch Pro in China with one standout promise for parents: location tracking can continue even after the watch is turned off. The device is designed around child safety, but its most unusual feature is offline tracking that can still share a child’s position for up to around five days after shutdown.
That approach changes how parents may think about a smartwatch for children. Instead of losing visibility as soon as the battery runs out or the watch is switched off, Xiaomi says the location signal can remain available through its own Find My network and nearby Xiaomi devices.
Tracking that keeps working after shutdown
The offline tracking system is powered by a dual-core processor and Xiaomi’s connected Find My ecosystem. When the watch is no longer active, nearby Xiaomi devices can help relay its location signal, extending the device’s usefulness beyond normal power limits.
Xiaomi also uses a third-generation AI-based positioning system on the Redmi Kids Watch Pro. The company says this system can identify buildings, floors, subway stations, and even daily travel routes, giving parents a more detailed view of where a child may be.
| Feature | Detail | Parent Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| Offline tracking | Location can still be shared for about 5 days after shutdown | Monitoring does not stop immediately when the watch is off |
| Third-generation AI positioning | Recognizes buildings, floors, subway stations, and route history | Provides more precise location context |
| Location updates | Updates every second | Supports real-time tracking through the companion app |
The system also records daily routes and can recognize underground rail stations. Xiaomi says the watch updates location every second, allowing parents to monitor movement in real time through the companion app.
Dual 5 MP cameras and health tools
Beyond tracking, the Redmi Kids Watch Pro uses an octagonal display and comes with a 5 MP camera on the top bezel. Xiaomi also places another 5 MP camera in a rear flip-up module, giving the watch two different shooting angles.
That setup lets children use the watch for selfies while also capturing objects nearby. Compared with many children’s smartwatches that rely on a single camera, the dual-camera design gives the device more flexibility.
| Part | Specification | Function |
|---|---|---|
| Front camera | 5 MP | Selfies |
| Rear camera | 5 MP, flip-up module | Capturing nearby objects |
| Display design | Octagonal | Distinct look for a kids’ smartwatch |
The watch also includes heart-rate monitoring, blood oxygen or SpO2 tracking, 18 sports modes, and five fitness assessment features. A water-proximity alert can send notifications automatically when a child is detected near a swimming pool, lake, or river.
Communication and parental control features
For communication, the Redmi Kids Watch Pro supports a tap-to-add function that allows children to add friends by placing two devices together. Xiaomi says the feature can also work with smartwatches from other brands.
The watch also supports child versions of WeChat and QQ for voice calls and messaging. On the parent side, a dedicated dashboard provides visibility into watch usage time, app use, activity, and device habits.
Parents can use that dashboard to set screen-time limits and manage how long the watch can be used. The smartwatch can also be disabled automatically during school hours to keep usage under control.
Xiaomi has priced the Redmi Kids Watch Pro at 1,199 yuan, or around Rp 3.2 million. The company has not announced any availability outside China, according to reporting cited by KompasTekno from Gizmochina.
