Google appears to be filling one of Android Auto’s more noticeable gaps: the lack of direct alarm controls on the car display. A recent APK teardown of Android Auto version 16.8.161804 suggests that Snooze and Stop buttons are being prepared for use when a phone alarm rings during a drive.
If the feature reaches users, it would let drivers manage an active alarm without reaching for a phone or another connected device. That small change fits Android Auto’s broader goal of reducing distraction behind the wheel, while also making a basic everyday function easier to access.
A long-requested control finally taking shape
Alarm handling has been one of the more awkward limitations in Android Auto. The platform already gives quick access to navigation, music, messages, and other functions that matter on the road, but alarms have remained outside that group.
That has left users dependent on their phone or on another paired device, such as a smartwatch, whenever an alarm sounds in the car. In practice, that means a simple interruption can become an unnecessary distraction.
Android Authority reported that Google is testing two primary actions for this use case: Snooze and Stop. The options reportedly appear both in pop-up notifications and in the system notification panel on the car screen.
Why the change matters in daily driving
An alarm may seem minor, but inside a moving vehicle it can be disruptive. When it goes off unexpectedly, the driver often has to react immediately, which can pull attention away from the road.
That is exactly the kind of situation Android Auto is meant to minimize. The interface is designed to keep commonly used functions within easy reach while reducing the need to handle a phone directly.
The new alarm controls would also answer a demand that has reportedly been around for nearly a decade. According to Android Authority, users have been asking for the ability to dismiss or delay alarms from the car display for a very long time.
What the teardown reveals
The information has not been announced officially by Google. Instead, it was uncovered through an APK teardown, a process that inspects app code to identify features that may still be in development.
In this case, Android Authority said it was able to activate the function early and see an Android Auto interface that offered options to snooze or stop an alarm directly from the vehicle screen. That does not guarantee a public release, however.
Features found in teardown code can change, be delayed, or be removed before they reach users. For now, the findings only point to a strong sign that Google is working on the capability.
Part of a broader push for practical tools
The possible alarm controls also suggest that Android Auto continues to evolve beyond entertainment and turn-by-turn navigation. Google has been adding or exploring features that make the system more useful in everyday driving situations.
Android Authority noted that in recent months it has also seen work on other functions for the platform, including climate controls. That pattern shows Android Auto is moving toward a more complete in-car interface, not just a dashboard for media and maps.
For now, drivers still need to rely on older methods if a phone alarm goes off while Android Auto is active. Even so, the latest app version indicates that Google may be preparing a more convenient and safer way to handle that moment directly from the car screen.
