MG is positioning the 4 EV as one of its most serious answers to the growing electric vehicle market in Indonesia. The model combines fast charging, a long driving range, and a starting price in the Rp 400 jutaan range, making it a notable option for buyers who are closely watching value.
What makes the hatchback stand out is not only the specification sheet, but also the way MG is backing it. The car is already assembled in Cikarang, West Java, which gives it a stronger local footing in a market where many electric models still rely on imports.
Pricing and daily usability
In Indonesia, the MG 4 EV is sold from around Rp 400 jutaan on the road Jakarta. That level places it within reach of consumers looking to move from gasoline cars to a compact electric hatchback for everyday use.
Range is another key part of its appeal. MG claims the car can travel up to 425 km on a single charge based on the WLTP standard, giving it enough flexibility for city driving and intercity trips.
Charging speed also adds to its practicality. From 10 percent to 80 percent, the fast-charging process is claimed to take around 35 minutes.
Built for an electric platform
The MG 4 EV sits on the Modular Scalable Platform, or MSP, which was designed specifically for modern electric vehicles. This is not a converted combustion platform, and that matters because the structure supports efficiency and stability.
MG also uses rear-wheel drive, a setup that is still uncommon in this class. The electric motor produces up to 170 PS and 250 Nm of torque, creating responsive performance for urban traffic and enough strength for driving beyond the city.
Battery options and charging flexibility
The model is offered with lithium-ion battery options ranging from 51 kWh to 64 kWh. That gives buyers some room to choose between efficiency, range, and daily usage needs.
For many users, the claimed 425 km driving range reduces the pressure to search for charging stations too often. Combined with the 35-minute fast-charging claim, the car is presented as a practical EV for routines that move quickly.
Cabin technology and convenience
Inside, the MG 4 EV uses a minimalist cabin with a floating center console. The layout gives the interior a cleaner and more modern feel.
The digital core is MG i SMART, which allows the driver to control the car through a smartphone and voice commands. The model also carries a 10.25-inch touchscreen head unit and a 7-inch digital instrument panel, both supporting Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Other convenience features include wireless charging and Vehicle to Load, or V2L. The V2L function can supply external electronic devices with up to 2,200 watts, expanding the car’s role beyond simple transportation.
Safety equipment and local production advantage
MG equips the 4 EV with MG Pilot, its Advanced Driver Assistance System package. The list includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic Jam Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, and Automatic Emergency Braking.
A 360-degree camera is also part of the package, helping the driver when maneuvering in tight spaces or parking. In a market where safety and ease of use matter more than ever, these features strengthen the model’s position.
Local assembly at SAIC Cikarang further improves the car’s competitiveness in Indonesia. MG is also supporting the model with battery warranty coverage and a free wall charger, while the company is expanding its electric lineup with the MGS5 EV compact SUV starting at around Rp 333,9 juta.
