Samsung’s next Galaxy Watch generation is looking less like speculation and more like an active product in development. A firmware leak from an internal test server in the United States has revealed test activity for both Galaxy Watch 9 and an Ultra 2 model, making the company’s wearable roadmap appear much closer to launch than before.
That kind of discovery matters because firmware testing usually appears after a device has already moved beyond early concept work. In this case, the leaked files point to hardware that is being prepared through a more serious development stage, even though Samsung has not confirmed the final names, specifications, or launch timing.
Testing signals a device nearing production
The presence of test firmware on Samsung’s internal server offers a rare look at what is happening behind the scenes. It indicates that Galaxy Watch 9 and Ultra 2 are not just circulating as rumors, but are now part of a structured testing process.
For market watchers, that shift is important. Once a product reaches this phase, it is generally viewed as being closer to production readiness, even if many commercial details remain undisclosed.
Samsung has not made any official statement about these devices yet. That means the current information should still be treated as a strong internal signal rather than a final public confirmation.
Ultra 2 appears alongside the standard model
One of the more notable details in the leak is the appearance of Ultra 2. Its inclusion suggests Samsung may continue its premium wearable strategy with a model placed above the regular Galaxy Watch 9.
At this stage, however, the differences between the two remain unclear. There is no confirmation yet on whether Ultra 2 will offer a more premium build, exclusive features, or only minor changes in design and durability.
Even so, the fact that it appears in the testing trail suggests Samsung is preparing more than one option for the next Galaxy Watch generation. That broadens the picture beyond a single mainstream model.
Timing fits Samsung’s usual wearable pattern
The leak also arrives at a time that lines up well with Samsung’s typical release rhythm for Galaxy Watch products. The series has often launched in the middle of the year, with July frequently used as the debut window.
If that pattern holds again, the current firmware activity would fit a timeline where an official announcement may not be far away. There is also a possibility of an earlier reveal, with details potentially surfacing as early as June before a July launch window.
That timing does not confirm a schedule, but it does make the leak more meaningful. It places the devices in a phase where public introduction could arrive relatively soon.
Features now being linked to the next Galaxy Watch
Several upgrades have begun to circulate around the new models, although Samsung has not confirmed them. One of the most discussed possibilities is a Snapdragon Elite processor, which would likely improve performance, smoother multitasking, and power efficiency.
Connectivity upgrades are also part of the conversation. 5G support is being mentioned as a possible addition, which could strengthen direct communication, navigation, and data transfer from the watch itself.
Bluetooth 5.3 is another feature being associated with the next generation. That standard is generally linked to more stable connections and better power use when paired with a phone or other accessories.
Ultra-Wideband, or UWB, has also entered the picture. If included, it could improve location tracking and deeper integration with smart home ecosystems.
Health tracking is expected to remain a major focus as well. Samsung is believed to be paying close attention to sensor improvements and refinements in stress, sleep, and heart rate monitoring.
Details still left unanswered
Even with this stronger sign of progress, key specifications remain unknown. Display details, RAM, storage capacity, and pricing have not surfaced yet.
That missing pricing information is especially relevant for Ultra 2, since it may be positioned as the premium option if it launches alongside the standard Galaxy Watch 9. Battery capacity is also still uncertain in practice, although the 435mAh figure is said to have a chance of being retained.
Performance could still improve without a battery-size change if Samsung optimizes the hardware and software well. For now, the leak confirms direction, but not the full product picture.
