Apple’s latest ranking of the world’s best-selling smartphones shows a clear shift in consumer demand, with the iPhone 17 family taking three of the top four spots. Even so, the older iPhone 16 is still holding firm in fourth place, proving that last year’s model has not lost its appeal.
The strongest momentum belongs to the standard iPhone 17, which finished as the best-selling smartphone globally in the first quarter of 2026. That model, launched in September 2025, had already appeared at No. 7 among the world’s best-selling smartphones across 2025.
Its appeal comes from a set of upgrades that made a noticeable difference in the market. Apple raised the display refresh rate to 120 Hz, increased the base storage to 256 GB, and upgraded the ultrawide camera to 48 MP.
The Pro models also pulled strong demand
The iPhone 17 Pro Max followed in second place, extending the series’ strong showing across the global market. Before this result, the top-end model in the iPhone 17 line had stood at No. 4 in the list of the best-selling smartphones for 2025.
Camera and battery improvements are among the main reasons behind its popularity. Apple also added the cosmic orange color, which helped strengthen the model’s identity.
In third place, the iPhone 17 Pro gave Apple yet another presence near the top of the chart. It matches the iPhone 17 Pro Max in capability, but its slimmer body makes it feel more comfortable for some users to hold.
The Pro model also uses the recognizable rectangular camera module and offers the Cosmic Orange color option. That combination keeps it closely aligned with its more expensive sibling while still giving it a distinct position in the premium lineup.
Why the iPhone 16 is still in the game
The iPhone 16 remains one of the world’s most popular smartphones, even after the arrival of its successor. Released in September 2024, it had previously become the most-bought smartphone throughout 2025.
Lower pricing after the launch of the iPhone 17 appears to be one of the main factors supporting its continued demand. That price shift has allowed the previous generation to stay relevant while the newer line draws the most attention.
The iPhone 16 itself uses a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with a 60 Hz refresh rate. It is powered by the Apple A18 chip, paired with 8 GB of RAM, and comes with a 48 MP main rear camera plus a 12 MP ultrawide camera.
Available pricing in Indonesia
All four models are already available in Indonesia. The iPhone 16 starts at Rp14,9 juta for 128GB, Rp16,9 juta for 256GB, and Rp20,9 juta for 512GB.
