T-Mobile’s Short-Term eSIM Passes Target Travelers, with 5G, Hotspot, and Instant Activation

T-Mobile is making a direct play for people who only need service for a short stay in the United States. Its new prepaid eSIM passes are built to activate quickly and avoid the hassle of a physical SIM card, making them a convenient option for travelers who want to get online as soon as they land.

The service goes on sale starting May 18 and is aimed at visitors, short-term arrivals, and anyone who does not want to commit to a full monthly plan. The lineup is simple: four pass lengths, one app-based activation flow, and 5G service from the moment the plan starts.

Four short-term options

T-Mobile is offering four durations so users can match a pass to the length of their trip. The choices are a 7-day pass for $25, a 10-day pass for $30, a 14-day pass for $35, and a 30-day pass for $50.

Each pass includes unlimited talk, text, and 5G data. The plans also include 50GB of premium data, which means users still get high-priority access when the network is busy or conditions are less than ideal.

Built for travelers, not long contracts

The short validity window is the main difference between these passes and a standard prepaid plan. Instead of paying for a month of service by default, travelers can choose a period that matches a vacation, a business trip, or a longer stopover.

That approach also helps avoid paying for days of service that will never be used. For short visits, the structure makes the product more practical than a full-length plan that outlasts the trip itself.

Hotspot and cross-border use are included

T-Mobile is not treating these passes as stripped-down emergency plans. Hotspot access is included on all four options for use in the United States, with the allowance tied to the chosen duration.

The 7-day pass includes 14GB of hotspot data, the 10-day pass includes 20GB, the 14-day pass includes 28GB, and the 30-day pass includes 50GB. For users who need tethering in Canada or Mexico, T-Mobile also includes 5GB of high-speed data.

That makes the offer useful for travelers moving across North America, not just those staying entirely within the U.S. For voice and text, the passes work in the United States, Mexico, and Canada with unlimited use.

Activation is designed for arrival

T-Mobile is leaning heavily on the convenience of eSIM. Users can download the app, buy the pass they need, and connect once they arrive in the U.S. without swapping a physical SIM card.

That setup is especially appealing for people who want service ready immediately after landing. It reduces the number of steps needed to get connected and removes the need to shop for a separate local SIM on arrival.

The company is also using its broader network position as part of the pitch. T-Mobile says it has a strong U.S. footprint and offers nationwide 5G alongside Ultra Capacity service, which gives the new passes a familiar backdrop for travelers who care about coverage and speed.

For short-term visitors, that combination of quick activation, unlimited core services, premium data, and hotspot support turns the new eSIM passes into more than a temporary fallback. It gives travelers a simple way to stay connected from the start of the trip through the day they leave.
