The future of Xiaomi’s compact foldable line is starting to look uncertain, and the company’s next major move may point in a very different direction. Instead of continuing to lean on the Flip format, Xiaomi is now being linked more strongly with a book-style foldable that could become its next priority.
That shift matters because it suggests Xiaomi is not stepping away from foldables altogether. Rather, the company appears to be reassessing where the stronger opportunity lies as competition in the segment grows sharper.
Signs Point Away From Mix Flip
Speculation around the Xiaomi Mix Flip picked up after a discussion on Weibo involving tipster Digital Chat Station, as reported by Gizmochina. When a user asked about Xiaomi’s latest compact foldable smartphone this year, the tipster indicated that the Mix Flip series had been discontinued.
That response quickly fueled debate, especially because the Mix Flip is still relatively new in Xiaomi’s lineup. If the signal proves accurate, it would also mean the rumored Xiaomi Mix Flip 3 is no longer on track for release.
Before the discontinuation rumor spread widely, the Mix Flip 3 had already surfaced in the IMEI database. That kind of listing is often viewed as an early sign that a device is moving toward launch, which is why many observers initially believed the series would continue.
A Flip Market That Has Yet to Fully Break Through
The concern around the Mix Flip is also tied to the broader market environment. Flip-style foldables remain a niche category and have not yet become a mainstream purchase for most consumers.
High production costs keep prices at premium levels, which makes mass adoption difficult. While the compact form factor is one of the main attractions, it does not always offer enough productivity value for every user compared with a book-style foldable.
That difference in use case appears to be influencing how manufacturers approach the category. The market may appreciate the convenience of a smaller device, but that appeal has not translated into a clear, universal demand.
Xiaomi Is Not the Only Brand Reconsidering
Xiaomi’s situation is not isolated. HONOR has also not provided certainty about what comes after the HONOR V Flip 2, while vivo and OPPO have yet to show successors for the vivo X Flip and OPPO Find N3 Flip.
vivo entered the segment with the X Flip as its first flip device, and OPPO released the Find N3 Flip in 2023. Motorola, by contrast, continues to push forward aggressively with the Motorola Razr 70, Motorola Razr 70+, and Motorola Razr 70 Ultra.
The contrast highlights how uneven the market has become. Some brands are still investing in flip models, while others appear to be slowing down or reevaluating their next step.
A Bigger Foldable May Be Xiaomi’s Next Focus
Against that backdrop, Xiaomi is said to be preparing a new book-style foldable instead. The device is expected to bring major upgrades, including the use of the in-house XRING O3 chip.
That direction suggests Xiaomi is still committed to foldables, but is shifting attention toward a format with broader appeal. The book-style category aligns more closely with current industry priorities, especially where larger screens and productivity features matter more.
The new model is expected to arrive around July or August 2026. Its final name has not been confirmed, although speculation points to either a successor to the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4 or a new branding approach such as Xiaomi 17 Fold.
Internal Evaluation Seems to Be Underway
Rumors that the Mix Flip line may be ending have been circulating since 2025. Gizmochina reported that sales of the Xiaomi Mix Flip 2 did not meet market expectations, which may explain why the series is no longer seen as strong enough to carry wider ambitions.
The same tipster also added fuel to the speculation without naming a specific device. Many interpreted the comment as referring to the Xiaomi Mix Flip 3 and the Xiaomi Civi 6, both of which had been expected to arrive in 2026.
At the same time, the Xiaomi Civi 5 Pro was also reported to have struggled to gain significant market share. Taken together, those signals point to a broader internal reassessment as Xiaomi weighs which product lines deserve more attention going forward.
