Samsung’s next large foldable may be taking a more restrained approach, and that change could matter just as much as any headline-grabbing display upgrade. Recent leaks suggest the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide will arrive with only two rear cameras, a setup that immediately sets it apart from the main Fold model and raises questions about Samsung’s pricing strategy.
The rumored hardware shift is not happening in isolation. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is said to appear alongside the regular Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Flip 8, and it has already surfaced more than once in earlier leaks. A render found in an early Samsung One UI 9 build reportedly showed the wide foldable with a dual-camera array on the back, making the design direction look increasingly deliberate.
A simpler camera setup than the main Fold
GalaxyClub and SamMobile report that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide will use two 50MP rear cameras. The main camera is said to have an f/1.8 aperture, while the secondary unit is listed at f/1.9.
For a premium foldable, that is a notably modest setup. Even so, both rear cameras are reportedly capable of recording 8K video at 30fps, which keeps the device in serious flagship territory on the video side.
The layout is also said to resemble the Galaxy S25 Edge, which likewise uses two rear cameras. Samsung, however, appears to be avoiding the more aggressive camera approach seen on that phone, where the main sensor is 200MP.
Hints that Samsung is aiming for a lower price
The camera rumors fit a broader pattern. If Samsung equips the wide model with fewer cameras than the regular Fold, it could be trying to reduce production costs and create more room for a friendlier launch price.
Battery information points in the same direction. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is said to carry a 4,800mAh battery, while the regular Galaxy Z Fold 8 is reported to have a 5,000mAh cell.
That difference is not dramatic, but it does reinforce the impression that Samsung is preparing two separate product lanes. The wide version seems designed as a more accessible alternative that still keeps the Fold identity intact.
Front cameras and the broader foldable lineup
Leaks also point to two 10MP front cameras. One would sit on the cover display, and the other would be placed inside the main folding screen.
Taken together, the rumored camera and battery setup makes the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide look more focused on efficiency than on spec-sheet dominance. That would give Samsung a way to expand the Fold family without forcing every model to chase the same premium formula.
If the information proves accurate, the company would be opening a new space in its foldable lineup. The wide model would still offer a large folding display, but with compromises that may help it reach a more competitive price point.
Launch timing is getting closer
Samsung has not confirmed any of these details yet, but multiple leaks suggest a foldable reveal in July. One report even points to July 22 as the launch date, with the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide potentially debuting at the same time as the regular Galaxy Z Fold 8 and the Galaxy Z Flip 8.
The appearance of the device in an early One UI 9 build adds weight to that timeline. Internal software assets often appear before a product is officially introduced, which is why the rumor has drawn extra attention.
For now, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide remains unannounced. Still, the combination of dual 50MP rear cameras, a smaller battery than the regular Fold, and repeated signs of an approaching launch make it one of Samsung’s most interesting foldable leaks to watch.
