Realme 16T Puts Sony 50MP Portraits First, Rear Selfie Mirror Redefines Selfies

Realme is positioning the 16T 5G around a camera experience that goes beyond a simple megapixel count. The standout pairing is a 50MP Sony main camera and a rear Selfie Mirror feature that lets users preview self-portraits while shooting with the back camera.

That approach gives the phone a different angle in a crowded segment, especially for users who care about portrait quality. Realme is also pushing AI-based image processing to improve subject sharpness, texture detail, and color accuracy rather than relying only on hardware specs.

Portrait-focused imaging

The Realme 16T 5G uses a 50MP AI camera built on the Sony IMX852 sensor. It is paired with an F1.8 aperture, autofocus, and Realme’s LumaColor IMAGE Engine.

According to Realme, that combination is meant to produce portraits that look sharper and more natural. The company is also emphasizing more accurate color reproduction so the results remain suitable for everyday use.

To support image balance in more difficult lighting, Realme has added RAW HDR processing and custom white balance tuning. These tools are intended to help maintain detail in both bright highlights and dark shadows.

Realme also includes AI Portrait Glow on the device. The feature is designed to help when lighting is low or when the background is too bright.

A selfie tool built around the rear camera

One of the most unusual features on the Realme 16T is the rear Selfie Mirror. Instead of forcing users to depend on the front camera, it lets them preview selfies while using the main rear camera.

That setup can make framing easier before taking the shot, while also taking advantage of the higher image quality usually offered by the rear camera. It is a practical twist aimed at users who prefer better detail without giving up the convenience of self-portrait shooting.

Realme is also adding more AI-driven creative tools to the phone. These include AI Popout Collage, which creates an effect that looks like the photo is breaking out of the frame, and AI StyleMe, which covers AI Profile Portrait and AI Football Star.

For quick social sharing, the Realme 16T 5G also offers AI Instant Clip. This feature can turn photos and videos into short cinematic clips in seconds.

Display, battery, and durability

Before the camera details were highlighted, Realme had already confirmed several other key specifications. The phone comes with a flat 6.8-inch AMOLED display, a 144Hz refresh rate, and peak brightness of 1,200 nits.

That combination suggests a device aimed not only at imaging, but also at smooth and bright everyday viewing. It gives the Realme 16T a more balanced profile for media consumption and general use.

Battery life is another major selling point. The handset packs an 8,000mAh battery and supports 45W charging along with bypass charging.

Realme also says the phone carries an IP69 rating for dust and water resistance. On top of that, it is described as having military-grade impact resistance, which positions it as a more rugged option for daily use.

Colors and launch lineup

The Realme 16T will be available in Aurora Green, Starlight Red, and Starlight Black. In India, it will be introduced alongside the Buds Air 8 Pro and the Watch S5.

With its mix of a Sony 50MP main camera, rear Selfie Mirror, AI photo tools, 144Hz display, and large battery, the Realme 16T is being shaped as a phone that puts imaging and endurance at the center of its appeal.
