Samsung’s next foldable may be shaped less by novelty and more by long-running user complaints. Early leaks around the Galaxy Z Fold 8 point to a broader display, a larger battery, and a slimmer body, suggesting the company is finally addressing the practical issues that have followed the Fold line for years.
The most eye-catching development is a new variant called the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide. According to TechManiacs, the model is being tested with a wider design, and that direction appears aimed at improving the experience of using the device when it is unfolded.
A wider inner display changes the Fold experience
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is said to feature a 7.6-inch inner screen with a near-square 4:3-style aspect ratio. That shape would make the phone feel closer to a compact tablet once opened.
This matters because the tall, narrow format used on previous Fold models has often been praised for standing out, but it has also been criticized for everyday use. Reading, productivity tasks, and some apps can feel less comfortable on a display that is too narrow.
Samsung’s wider approach would mark a noticeable shift in how the Fold is used day to day. If the variant reaches the market, the change in aspect ratio could become one of the most meaningful updates in the entire lineup.
Battery capacity is also moving up
Power endurance is another major part of the latest leaks. The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 is said to increase battery capacity from 4,400mAh on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 to 5,000mAh, while charging speed is expected to rise to 45W.
That upgrade may sound modest on paper, but it is still important for a foldable phone. Devices in this category have always had to balance two displays, a thin frame, and limited internal space, which often forces trade-offs in battery size.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is also linked to a 4,800mAh battery. That would be around 400mAh more than the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s 8.0-inch model, and the extra space appears to come partly from a different internal layout.
Samsung is also trying to make the Fold easier to carry
The regular Galaxy Z Fold 8 is also said to be getting slimmer. In the unfolded state, its thickness is reported at around 4.1 mm, down slightly from 4.2 mm on the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
Weight is expected to drop as well, from 215 grams to about 210 grams. The difference is small, but it still matters in a category where bulk and portability remain constant concerns.
These changes show that Samsung is still chasing a more comfortable foldable design. In today’s market, that matters just as much as introducing a new concept.
Camera trade-offs may follow the wider design
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide may not improve every area. Samsung is reportedly considering removing the telephoto camera and replacing it with a simpler setup built around two 50MP cameras.
