Apple’s Cheapest MacBook Gets the iPhone 16 Pro’s A18 Pro Chip, Starts Above Rp 10 Million

Apple is positioning the MacBook Neo as a new low-cost entry point into the Mac lineup, and its most notable move is the use of the A18 Pro chip. That is the same chip found in the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, placing a mobile-class processor inside Apple’s cheapest laptop offering.

This approach makes the MacBook Neo relevant to students, office workers, and first-time Mac users who want a lighter device without moving far up the price ladder. It also gives the model a distinct identity at a time when many thin laptops compete primarily on affordability.

A lighter Mac built for everyday mobility

The MacBook Neo uses an aluminum body that is designed to feel both light and solid. Apple says the device weighs around 2.7 pounds, or 1.2 kg, which should make it easy to carry for daily commuting and campus use.

Apple also gives the model a more colorful finish than many of its older entry-level laptops. The available colors are blush, indigo, silver, and citrus, paired with the Magic Keyboard and a built-in wallpaper set.

The A18 Pro is the main differentiator

The biggest talking point is still the A18 Pro itself. Apple says the chip is fast enough for everyday workloads, while also enabling the MacBook Neo to offer a more accessible starting price than many other Mac models.

Apple claims the laptop is 50% faster than the best-selling PC laptop with Intel Core Ultra 5. The chip combines a 6-core CPU and a 5-core GPU, which Apple says should leave room for creative apps and gaming performance as well.

The MacBook Neo also arrives without a cooling fan. That design helps the laptop stay quiet and cool during use, which fits its focus on portability and simple daily tasks.

Display, audio, and video calls

The laptop features a 13-inch Liquid Retina display with a resolution of 2408 x 1506 pixels. Apple says the panel supports up to one billion colors and reaches 500 nits of brightness, while an anti-reflective coating helps visibility in different lighting conditions.

For communication and entertainment, Apple includes a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, two microphones with beamforming, and two speakers with Spatial Audio and Dolby Atmos. Those additions make the MacBook Neo more complete for video calls and media playback than a basic budget machine.

Battery life and connectivity

Battery endurance is another key selling point. Apple says the MacBook Neo can last up to 16 hours on a single charge, which strengthens its appeal for users who move between classes, meetings, or home and office work.

The laptop comes with a large Multi-Touch trackpad, a Magic Keyboard, and Touch ID on some models. Connectivity includes two USB-C ports, a headphone jack, WiFi 6E, and Bluetooth 6, while the operating system is macOS Tahoe.

Apple Intelligence is built in as well, with features such as Writing Tools and Live Translation. That places the MacBook Neo in Apple’s broader software ecosystem even though it sits at the lower end of the price range.

Prices and storage options in Indonesia

In Indonesia, retail monitoring at an Apple partner store shows two storage variants. The 8GB + 256GB model is priced at Rp 10.748.000, while the 8GB + 512GB version is listed at Rp 12.999.000.

The price gap between the two models is Rp 2.251.000. The 256GB option is better suited for users who mainly handle documents, browsing, video calls, writing, learning, and cloud-based storage, while the 512GB model offers more room for long-term use, including photos, apps, and larger work projects.
