One UI 9.0 Could Reach Galaxy S26 First, Samsung’s Release Window Starts to Take Shape

Samsung is preparing a major software transition for Galaxy users with One UI 9.0, which is being built on Android 17. The update is already in beta for selected devices, offering an early look at which phones and tablets are likely to receive it first.

The most important question for many users is not the redesign itself, but whether their current device will remain supported. Samsung has not published an official One UI 9.0 device list, so the devices now being discussed are still based on the company’s existing update policy.

Devices most likely to get One UI 9.0

The expected rollout covers flagship phones, foldables, tablets, and several mid-range models. If a device is not included in the current list, it is less likely to receive the update.

Samsung appears to be placing its newest models at the front of the queue. That means Galaxy S26 owners, along with users of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7, are likely to see the update before older devices.

When the update is expected to begin

Samsung is expected to unveil One UI 9.0 at Galaxy Unpacked on 22 July 2026. The same event is also expected to introduce the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8.

Stable releases for older Galaxy devices are likely to begin in September, with the first wave expected to focus on the latest models. The One UI 9.0 beta that arrived in early May 2026 is currently limited to the Galaxy S26 series.

This rollout pattern suggests Samsung is keeping initial testing centered on its premium devices before expanding access more widely. If that approach continues, the newest flagship users will be the first to experience the software.

What is changing in One UI 9.0

Visually, One UI 9.0 does not appear to be a dramatic departure from One UI 8.5, which already introduced major design changes. Even so, Samsung is preparing several interface refinements that should be noticeable in everyday use.

The brightness and volume sliders are reportedly becoming thicker and now fill the pill-shaped control area more completely, which should make them easier to tap accurately. The lock screen and quick panel media players can also be resized and now show a more animated waveform effect that follows the album art.

Some media controls are shifting to circular buttons rather than staying inside rounded square containers. Samsung is also expected to expand a liquid glass effect across the interface.

On the feature side, One UI 9.0 will bring Galaxy AI improvements and refinements to existing tools. Creative Studio is also expected to appear directly in a built-in app, allowing users to create personal profile cards without opening a separate app.

Home Up in Good Lock is set to gain support for multi-finger gestures for custom actions such as adjusting volume or opening a pop-up window. Samsung Browser will also add an “Ask AI” feature that can provide answers directly from a web page.

Beyond Samsung’s own additions, One UI 9.0 will include Android 17 capabilities. One of the most notable is bubble support for all apps, which would allow any app to open in a floating bubble.

Android 17 also brings a system-level contacts picker so apps can access only selected contacts instead of the full address book. Google is also improving app behavior across different screen sizes by preventing developers from locking apps to specific orientations.

There is still room for Samsung to add more features when Galaxy Unpacked arrives, so the current picture may not be final. For Galaxy users, One UI 9.0 is shaping up to be a more measured visual update, but one that still matters because it combines interface refinements, Galaxy AI changes, and Android 17 upgrades.
