Xiaomi is preparing a flagship that puts endurance at the center of the story, and the headline number is hard to ignore: 8,000mAh. In its latest teaser, the company claims the Xiaomi 17 Max can stream video for up to 33.3 hours on a single charge, a figure that immediately sets it apart in the premium phone segment.
That battery claim is also being framed aggressively by Xiaomi itself. The company says the handset’s stamina can even surpass the combined usage of two Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max units under similar conditions, although that comparison still needs independent testing to confirm it.
A battery size that changes the conversation
The biggest talking point around the Xiaomi 17 Max is not its camera or display, but its massive battery capacity. At 8,000mAh, it is described as the first smartphone in Xiaomi’s history to carry a battery of that size.
For a modern flagship, that capacity is unusually large. It also reflects a broader shift in the industry, where silicon-carbon battery technology is increasingly being used to push capacity higher without completely abandoning premium design goals.
That is why Xiaomi’s 33.3-hour streaming claim matters. If real-world performance comes close to that number, the Xiaomi 17 Max could become a strong option for users who spend long hours watching video, working on the move, or simply prefer a phone that can last far beyond a typical day.
Still a full flagship, not just a big battery phone
Xiaomi is not positioning the device as a battery-first model alone. The Xiaomi 17 Max is also said to feature a 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED display with an adaptive refresh rate, a setup that should help with power efficiency while keeping the experience in flagship territory.
Performance is expected to come from Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. That combination suggests Xiaomi wants the phone to compete as a complete high-end device, with endurance as one of its main differentiators rather than its only advantage.
The camera system also appears to be part of that premium approach. Xiaomi 17 Max is said to carry Leica Camera AG branding, along with a new 200MP main sensor.
Fast charging and durability complete the package
A large battery only works as a selling point if recharging remains practical, and Xiaomi has addressed that as well. The phone supports 100W wired fast charging, plus 50W wireless charging for users who prefer a more flexible charging routine.
The handset also carries an IP68 rating, which adds an extra layer of confidence for daily use around dust and water. Together with the LTPO display, that detail suggests Xiaomi is trying to balance long endurance with the kind of premium protection expected from a flagship device.
Who this phone appears to target
The Xiaomi 17 Max seems built for users who push their phones hard. Heavy streamers, mobile workers, and people who dislike frequent charging are the clearest target audience for a device like this.
If the design remains manageable despite the huge battery inside, the phone could stand out as one of the more distinctive Android flagships expected to arrive in 2026. Its appeal would likely be strongest among buyers who value stamina as much as performance and camera hardware.
Xiaomi plans to unveil the Xiaomi 17 Max on 21 May in China. The same event is also expected to introduce the Xiaomi Band 10 Pro, a new clip-on earphone, and the YU7 GT electric SUV.
