Samsung Galaxy users in the United States now have a new way to keep a passport close at hand without carrying the physical document everywhere. Through Samsung Wallet, a U.S. passport can be stored as a digital ID designed to streamline identity checks in supported situations.

The feature arrives through Samsung’s partnership with CLEAR and has TSA approval for digital identity use. In practice, that means eligible Galaxy owners can present identity information from their phone at many checkpoints instead of repeatedly taking out a physical passport.

Digital passport access inside Samsung Wallet

Samsung has introduced Samsung ID with CLEAR in Samsung Wallet at no additional cost. The service lets users add data from a U.S. passport into the digital wallet on a Galaxy phone and keep that identity securely stored on the device.

CLEAR handles the verification side of the process. The U.S.-based company is widely known for biometric identity verification systems used at major airports and stadiums.

For U.S. passport holders, the digital ID is labeled as TSA-approved digital ID. Samsung says it can be used at more than 250 Transportation Security Administration checkpoints, which makes airport identity screening more compact and less dependent on physical documents.

Built for domestic travel and supported locations

Samsung says the digital ID is intended for domestic travel within the United States. It can also work in certain supported venues, including BMO Stadium.

That broader use shows Samsung Wallet is moving beyond payments and into official identity storage. The app is now positioned as a place where Galaxy users can keep more than cards and tickets, while still relying on secure on-device storage.

The setup is especially relevant for travelers who move through airports often. Instead of pulling out a passport every time identity needs to be confirmed, users can rely on the digital version where the system is supported.

A free option for eligible Galaxy owners

One of the main advantages of the feature is that it does not require an extra fee. Eligible users can add their U.S. passport information to Samsung Wallet without buying a separate service.

Samsung also frames the partnership with CLEAR as a way to make identity verification faster and smoother in travel settings. Woncheol Chai, Executive Vice President and Head of the Digital Wallet Team at Samsung MX, said the company is pleased to work with CLEAR to bring CLEAR ID to Samsung Wallet.

He added that the collaboration is meant to simplify airport travel and other identity verification experiences. That direction fits Samsung Wallet’s expanding role inside the Galaxy ecosystem, where the phone is becoming a more central place for both convenience and official use cases.

For users in the United States, the result is a digital passport option that is accepted at TSA checkpoints and supported locations like BMO Stadium, while still staying tied to the limits Samsung outlined for domestic use.
