Leica 5x Telephoto Lands On Every Xiaomi 17T Model, Ending The Pro-Only Era

Xiaomi is taking a more aggressive approach to mobile imaging with the Xiaomi 17T Series, and the most notable change is not limited to the Pro model. Leica 5x Telephoto now comes to every model in the lineup, a shift that makes five-times optical zoom part of the standard experience rather than an upper-tier privilege.

That decision changes the positioning of the series in a meaningful way. Instead of treating zoom capability as a premium bonus, Xiaomi is making it one of the main reasons to pay attention to the 17T family.

Leica zoom for both models

Xiaomi 17T and Xiaomi 17T Pro are both equipped with Leica 5x Telephoto. This marks the first time Xiaomi has spread the feature across the entire T series lineup, rather than reserving it for the Pro variant.

The practical benefit is straightforward. Users can capture distant subjects with five-times optical zoom while keeping image quality sharp and stable for everyday use. That makes the feature relevant for concerts, sports events, and travel photography.

In the premium smartphone segment, this kind of long-range capture is increasingly valued by users. Xiaomi also appears to be responding to a growing demand from creators who want more than just a good-looking photo.

A stronger push for content creation

Photography is not the only area Xiaomi is highlighting. The Xiaomi 17T Series also introduces Leica Live Moment, a feature designed around the live photo format.

The system records a few seconds before and after the shutter is pressed, and Xiaomi says the experience has been optimized with Leica’s visual style. The goal is to give the feature a distinct character rather than making it feel generic.

Live photo content continues to gain traction on social media, especially on TikTok. Xiaomi says the hashtags #livephoto and #fotolive have already been used in more than three million posts on the platform, with users often applying the format to lifestyle shots, outfit checks, and daily documentation.

Built for different kinds of users

The series arrives in two device sizes, giving Xiaomi a way to serve different usage preferences. The company says the two-model approach is meant to make the experience more flexible for modern users.

Beyond imaging, the Xiaomi 17T Series also includes an eye-care display to help reduce eye strain during long periods of use. On the power side, Xiaomi has fitted the series with a large battery to support intensive daily activity.

That combination suggests the lineup is not being positioned purely as a camera-first device. Xiaomi is also targeting users who move between tasks frequently and need a phone that remains comfortable to use throughout the day.

Launch timing and market positioning

The Xiaomi 17T Series is scheduled to arrive in Indonesia on 2 June 2026, following its global debut on 28 May 2026. Xiaomi has not yet revealed full specifications or official pricing for the Indonesian market.

Even without those details, the direction of the product strategy is already visible. Xiaomi is leaning heavily on its continued collaboration with Leica to sharpen the identity of the series in the premium smartphone market.

By extending Leica 5x Telephoto to all models, Xiaomi is signaling that the 17T Series is meant to compete more seriously in imaging. The lineup is being shaped not only for users who want a capable phone, but also for those who prioritize visual storytelling and modern content creation.
