Android is getting a broader security and convenience update that reaches far beyond a single app or feature. Google’s latest June Android Drop brings stronger scam-call warnings, easier file sharing with iPhone users, and several additions that touch search, photos, reading, chat, and personal safety.
One of the most notable changes is aimed at a problem many mobile users know well: calls that look legitimate but are not. Phone by Google can now warn users when a caller appears to be pretending to be someone already saved in the contact list, making it harder for scammers to exploit trust through familiar names.
The feature is designed to catch situations where a call seems to come from a trusted contact, but the call is not actually coming from that person’s device. Google says the rollout is available on Android 12 and newer devices that use Phone by Google, and it is being released gradually to supported devices.
Sharing files across phones becomes less awkward
Google is also pushing Quick Share in a direction that reduces friction between Android and iPhone. The update is meant to make cross-platform transfer feel more natural, especially when people just want to send everyday files without extra steps.
The kinds of files supported include photos, videos, and documents. That matters because file sharing between different mobile ecosystems has often required more effort than it should, and Google is clearly trying to make Android easier to use in mixed-device conversations.
Circle to Search moves beyond single objects
Another area getting smarter is Circle to Search. The feature can now help users look up a full outfit from a photo or video without leaving the app currently in use.
It can identify clothing items such as tops, pants, shoes, and accessories, then help surface similar products online. Google says this capability is available on Android 14 devices that support Circle to Search, extending visual search from simple object recognition into a more practical style-discovery tool.
Google Photos gets a wardrobe-like layer
Google Photos is also gaining a new function that behaves like a digital wardrobe. It organizes clothing seen in a user’s photo library and builds a personal collection of outfit ideas.
Users will be able to browse their clothes, save favorite looks, and try different combinations. Google plans to begin rolling out the feature next week for eligible users in the United States, India, and Brazil on Android 10 and newer devices.
Personal Safety adds more protection for younger users
The Personal Safety app is being expanded as well, with updates focused on children and teenagers. Children under 13 can add medical information and emergency contacts that are visible from the lock screen, giving first responders easier access when needed.
They also get access to car crash detection, which can contact emergency services and notify emergency contacts after an accident. For teens, Google is adding Safety Check and real-time location sharing with trusted contacts, and the Personal Safety app is available globally.
Reading and messaging receive smaller but useful upgrades
Google Play Books is getting a “Catch me up” feature that helps readers quickly recall what happened before they continue a book. Users can also highlight a section and ask questions about characters, themes, or story details.
Google says the feature is starting to roll out for selected English-language books, including many free titles. In Gboard, Google is adding another Emoji Kitchen option that lets users combine emoji into unique stickers for use in messages and chats.
Together, the June Android Drop shows a clear focus on everyday usefulness rather than headline-grabbing changes alone. From scam-call warnings and easier Android-to-iPhone transfers to smarter visual search and more flexible reading tools, Google is shaping Android around the small tasks people handle most often.
