Xiaomi is making one of the most practical parts of smartphone use a little less divided: file sharing between Android and Apple devices. With the latest HyperOS 3 update, the company has added AirDrop support to Quick Share, starting with the Xiaomi 17T Pro.
That means users with a compatible Xiaomi phone can now send files more easily to nearby Apple devices. For many people, this is a meaningful shift because cross-platform file exchange has long been one of the most frustrating gaps between Android and iOS.
Xiaomi confirmed the change through its official HyperOS account on X. The company said AirDrop compatibility in Quick Share is already active in the newest HyperOS 3 update and will gradually reach more Xiaomi phones in the coming weeks.
How the feature works
After the update is installed, the Quick Share settings panel on supported devices can detect nearby Apple products. The list includes iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices that are close to the user.
The reverse direction is also supported. AirDrop can recognize compatible Xiaomi phones, which means file sharing can work both ways between Apple devices and Xiaomi handsets that support the feature.
That makes the update more than a simple discovery tool. Xiaomi has positioned it as a direct bridge between Quick Share and AirDrop for everyday nearby transfers.
Xiaomi 17T Pro leads the rollout
The Xiaomi 17T Pro is the first device from the brand to receive the feature. Xiaomi is not pushing it to the entire lineup at once, but is starting with one model before expanding it further.
The company says broader availability will follow over the next few weeks. While Xiaomi has not listed the next devices yet, the rollout makes clear that AirDrop compatibility is part of the HyperOS 3 plan rather than a one-off experiment.
This staged approach is common for new software functions. It allows Xiaomi to test stability on an initial device before extending support to more smartphones.
A small change with a larger effect
AirDrop has long been one of Apple’s most convenient features. Quick Share serves a similar role on Android, especially for fast local transfers between devices.
When the two systems start working together, the practical wall between them becomes lower. Users no longer need to rely entirely on third-party apps or cloud services just to move photos, documents, or other files to an iPhone or Mac nearby.
The shift also reflects a broader change in the smartphone industry. Google first brought this type of AirDrop support to the Pixel 10 series, and Samsung later adopted it on the Galaxy S26 line.
With Xiaomi now joining that group, Android-to-Apple interoperability is becoming more visible in mainstream phones. It also signals that cross-ecosystem sharing is moving from a nice extra to something users may increasingly expect by default.
