Rupiah Pressure Looms Over Xiaomi Phones, Buyers Told Not to Wait Too Long

Xiaomi Indonesia is taking the rupiah’s weakness seriously, and the company is warning that smartphone prices may face upward pressure if current conditions persist. For consumers who have already been planning to upgrade, the message is simple: waiting too long may not help.

Marketing Director Xiaomi Indonesia Andi Renreng said the company is fully aware of the currency pressure affecting the industry. He made the remarks in Jakarta on Tuesday (2/6/2026), and stressed that Xiaomi still wants to offer strong value for consumers.

Costs are being pushed from several sides

The exchange rate is only one part of the pressure, according to Andi. Global supply chain conditions and limited memory chip availability are also adding to production costs.

He explained that device pricing depends on many connected factors. A weaker rupiah, along with the continuing shortage of RAM and memory components, can raise manufacturing expenses and affect the final price of products.

Xiaomi said it will keep monitoring the situation as a whole. That means the company is watching not only currency movement, but also fast-changing shifts in component supply and the wider industry landscape.

No firm answer on price increases

When asked whether Xiaomi devices would definitely become more expensive, Andi did not give a direct yes or no. He said the impact on the smartphone industry is already being felt, even if the exact pricing outcome has not been decided.

“I am not saying no, and I am not saying yes. But will it have an impact? Yes, it will definitely have an impact. The dollar is up, memory is still scarce, of course those factors matter,” he said.

His comments suggest that Xiaomi sees price movement as a realistic possibility rather than a distant scenario. The company is not locking in a public forecast, but it is also not dismissing the chance of changes ahead.

Product strategy is being adjusted

Amid the cost pressure, Xiaomi is preparing product strategy adjustments to stay competitive in Indonesia. The company is focusing on devices that are most relevant to consumers across different price segments.

Andi said product value is not measured by price alone. Benefits and features received by consumers are also central to Xiaomi’s approach.

That is why the company wants to offer products that fit the target audience more closely. The goal is to keep competitiveness intact while still delivering value for buyers who look for a balance between price and features.

A signal for buyers who are already planning to purchase

Andi also gave a clear hint to consumers who have been considering a new phone. He suggested that they should not wait too long if they are already ready to buy.

“The sooner you buy, the better. There is a possibility prices will rise again,” he said. He added that the timing of any price change still cannot be predicted.

The warning reflects how rupiah weakness has moved beyond macroeconomic discussion and into the business calculations of smartphone makers. For Xiaomi, the issue is now part of how it shapes pricing decisions and product direction in the Indonesian market.
