ROG Falcata Turns Split Design Into A Solo Gamepad, Aimed At Competitive Players

Asus has pushed the idea of a gaming keyboard beyond the usual full-board format with the ROG Falcata. The new model is a wireless split keyboard in a 75 percent layout, and its most unusual trick is that one half can be used on its own when more desk space is needed for mouse movement.

That design gives the ROG Falcata a very different role from a typical gaming keyboard. It is built not only for competitive players who want faster input, but also for professionals who want a more comfortable typing position during long sessions.

A split design built for flexibility

The two halves of the chassis can be arranged separately and tilted to better match hand position. Asus also gives the keyboard a left-side mode, where the right section can be removed and the left section works as a standalone gamepad-style unit.

For some users, that setup may matter as much as the gaming features themselves. It creates a wider mouse area, while still keeping important keys within reach.

The 75 percent layout also helps keep the board compact without removing essential controls. Function keys remain available, along with arrow keys and important buttons such as Print Screen, Insert, Page Up, Page Down, and Delete.

Hardware built around speed and control

At the center of the ROG Falcata are ROG HFX V2 magnetic switches. These linear switches use Hall effect sensing to read stem movement through changes in magnetic flux, instead of relying on the mechanical metal contact found in traditional switches.

Asus places the Hall sensor IC directly on the top surface of the PCB to keep it closer to the switch magnet. The company says this setup improves positional reading precision to 0.01 mm and supports an operational lifespan of up to 100 million keystrokes.

The total travel distance is reduced to 3.5 mm. Initial actuation force is listed at 32 gf, with total force at 49 gf, while the switch stem uses stabilizing walls to help keep out micro dust and reduce key wobble.

Gaming features aimed at competitive play

The keyboard includes Rapid Trigger and Speed Tap Mode for faster in-game input. Rapid Trigger resets input instantly as the finger lifts within a decimal-millimeter range, and Asus puts a physical lever on the rear-left corner of the chassis to activate it.

Speed Tap Mode prioritizes the last directional input when two opposite direction keys are pressed at the same time. It can be enabled quickly with Fn + Caps Lock for one second.

To keep typing sound under control, Asus adds a four-layer damping system. The stack includes a Silicone Pad at the base, Poron Dampening Foam above it, a Poron Switch Pad between the PCB and the metal top plate, and Silicone Foam under the upper metal plate.

Materials, angles, and included accessories

The chassis uses an anodized aluminum top plate and a thick high-quality plastic lower shell. When both modules are joined together, an internal magnetic coupling mechanism locks the center connection tightly.

Asus also includes two soft silicone wrist rests in the box. They attach to a sturdy metal plate with screws and the bundled Allen key.

The keyboard can be angled using eight threaded spherical support feet, split into four large and four small sizes. That flexibility is part of the board’s overall focus on ergonomics, even though the tilt options are still limited for some users.

Connectivity, battery life, and software

ROG Falcata supports tri-mode connectivity through USB cable, 2.4 GHz RF wireless via ROG SpeedNova, and Bluetooth 5. Wireless performance reaches up to 8000 Hz polling rate over both USB and the bundled receiver.

There is also a Zone Mode that turns off all RGB lighting to preserve battery life. With RGB off in standard power-saving use, battery endurance can exceed 200 hours, and charging uses a single USB-C cable connected to the left chassis module.

For configuration, Asus is moving to the Gear Link web platform as a successor to Armoury Crate. Through it, users can remap keys, record macros, adjust Hall sensor dead zones, and calibrate per-key sensitivity, with all settings stored directly in the keyboard’s internal memory.

Price and availability notes

According to Medcom, the global retail price of the ROG Falcata is USD419.99. In Indonesia, the official price is said to be in the range of Rp5.515.000 to Rp6.439.000.

Even with its unusual split design and advanced magnetic switch system, the keyboard still has practical limits. Some players may find the angle adjustment too high, and the proprietary switch ecosystem and interconnect cable are also factors to consider before buying.
