Galaxy Watch8 Turns Your Wrist Into a Tap-to-Pay Tool for MRT Rides and Coffee Runs

Samsung is expanding the role of the Galaxy Watch8 beyond health tracking and productivity. Through NFC Pay integration with Bank Central Asia (BCA), the smartwatch can now handle contactless payments directly from the wrist.

That shift is aimed at people who move quickly between transit, retail, and daily errands. Instead of reaching for a physical card or unlocking a smartphone, users can simply tap the watch against a reader.

Designed for faster everyday payments

The feature is positioned for urban routines where speed matters. At MRT gates, the tap-in process becomes more efficient, while at cafes and convenience stores, small to mid-sized payments can be completed with less effort.

Samsung says this approach is meant to reduce transaction time and improve convenience when hands are full, crowds are dense, or a wallet is hard to reach. In those moments, a smartwatch payment flow can feel more practical than searching through a bag or pocket.

Tipe Sultan, MX Product Marketing Manager at Samsung Electronics Indonesia, said the Galaxy Watch8 is intended to deliver a smartwatch experience that supports more than health and productivity. He added that NFC Pay with the myBCA app is designed to make transactions faster, more practical, and seamless from the wrist.

How to set up myBCA on Galaxy Watch8

To use the payment feature, users need to connect their myBCA account on a smartphone with the smartwatch version of the app. The process starts on the Galaxy Watch8 by opening PlayStore, searching for the myBCA app, and installing it on the watch.

After the app is installed, users select the Connection option to begin pairing. The process then continues on the phone, where the user must already be logged in to myBCA.

From there, the setup moves through the settings menu in the top right corner. Users choose Smartwatch Connection or Koneksi Smartwatch, then tap Connect Now or Hubungkan Sekarang.

The system will scan for a Galaxy Watch that is close to the phone. Once the watch is detected, users press Continue or Lanjut to proceed.

The next steps are to read and accept the applicable terms and conditions. Users also need to enter their myBCA PIN before a success notification appears and the feature is ready to use.

After activation, the NFC Pay menu on the watch can be opened whenever a payment is needed at a cashier terminal or transit gate. This makes the Galaxy Watch8 function as a more compact payment device for daily routines.

Two design options for different users

Samsung offers the Galaxy Watch8 in two main lines. The regular variant comes with a sporty design, while the Classic version uses a more traditional watch look with a rotating bezel.

Samsung also notes that size, color, and official price details are available for each variant. The launch of the feature is accompanied by a special cashback offer, giving consumers another reason to consider the different design options.
