Huawei is preparing a compact tablet that tries to prove small devices do not have to feel limited. The MatePad Mini is set to arrive in Indonesia on 24 June, and it is being positioned as the most compact tablet in Huawei’s lineup for users who want a device that can handle more than basic entertainment.

The strongest appeal comes from its design. Huawei says the 8.8-inch tablet measures only 5.2 mm thick and weighs 260 grams, making it one of the thinnest tablets in its class while still aiming to remain practical for everyday use.

A compact body with a premium display focus

Huawei is giving the MatePad Mini a major visual advantage through its OLED PaperMatte screen. The panel is designed to deliver a paper-like writing feel while also reducing glare, which makes it better suited for reading and note-taking over long periods.

The display offers a 2.5K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and brightness up to 1,800 nits. Huawei also says the bezels are just 2.9 mm thin, helping shrink the tablet’s overall dimensions by 4.1 percent while increasing the display area by 9.4 percent and pushing the screen-to-body ratio to 92 percent.

Comfort during extended viewing has not been ignored. The tablet includes Eye Comfort mode to filter blue light and an eBook mode that switches content into black and white for easier reading.

Huawei says the device has also received TÜV Rheinland and SGS Low Visual Fatigue certifications. That detail strengthens its positioning as a tablet built not only for mobility, but also for reading and writing sessions that last longer than a quick scroll.

Made for work, notes, and creative tasks

Despite the small footprint, the MatePad Mini includes tools aimed at productivity. Huawei Notes can recognize handwriting and even mathematical formulas, which gives the tablet a more serious edge for study and office use.

For documents, Huawei includes WPS PC Level, while creative users get GoPaint for drawing and illustration work. The tablet also supports the Huawei Fold Cover case, which can be used in multiple modes depending on the user’s needs.

Stylus support is another part of the package. The third-generation Huawei M-Pencil is compatible with the tablet and is said to offer 10,000 levels of pressure sensitivity with 0.8 ms low latency for more precise writing and drawing.

Cameras and battery are not afterthoughts

Huawei has also equipped the MatePad Mini with a 50 MP main camera and an 8 MP ultrawide camera on the back. The camera module uses a ring design that Huawei describes as inspired by a luxury watch.

For video calls and selfies, a 32 MP front camera is placed in one corner of the display. That setup suggests the tablet is intended for communication as well as content consumption and productivity.

Battery life is supported by a 6,400 mAh cell that Huawei claims can last for up to 15.5 hours of video playback. Charging support reaches 66W fast charging, which helps balance the slim body with faster top-ups for daily use.

What remains to be announced in Indonesia

Huawei has confirmed that the full specifications and local pricing for the MatePad Mini will be revealed on 24 June. Until then, the confirmed details point to a tablet that tries to combine portability, display quality, and productivity features in one unusually small device.

With its 5.2 mm body, 260-gram weight, 8.8-inch OLED PaperMatte display, stylus support, and work-friendly software, the MatePad Mini is shaping up to be one of the more closely watched tablet launches for the Indonesian market. The final price will likely determine how strongly this compact model can compete when it officially goes on sale.
