Huawei has introduced the Nova Y74 to international markets with a clear message: this is a budget-friendly phone built for endurance, not for flashy extras. Its biggest appeal comes from a 6,620mAh battery, a 90Hz display, and added durability aimed at everyday use.

For users who want a low-cost phone that can go a full day without constantly hunting for a charger, the Nova Y74 makes a practical case. It is positioned as an entry-level device that focuses on the essentials rather than chasing premium features.

Built around endurance

The headline feature is the silicon-carbon battery with a 6,620mAh capacity. Huawei says the phone can play online video for up to 24.9 hours or support phone calls for around 48 hours on a single full charge.

The device also supports 40W fast charging. According to Huawei, the battery can reach about 53 percent in 30 minutes, while a 15-minute charge is claimed to provide enough power for up to five hours of video playback.

Simple display, smoother daily use

On the front, the Nova Y74 uses a 6.67-inch LCD panel with HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. It does not aim for a high-end display experience, but the specification is well suited to everyday tasks such as social media, video streaming, and light multitasking.

Huawei also lists brightness of up to 850 nits, which should help visibility in bright outdoor conditions. The screen includes wet touch support as well, making it more responsive when hands or the display surface are damp.

Core hardware and camera setup

For imaging, Huawei equips the Nova Y74 with a 50MP rear camera and an 8MP front camera. The setup is modest, but it remains practical for routine photos, selfies, and video calls.

The phone comes with 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. It also supports NFC, Bluetooth 5.1, and dual-SIM 4G connectivity, while EMUI 12 serves as the operating system.

Huawei has also included an X Button that can be customized to open favorite apps or trigger quick shortcuts. That addition reinforces the phone’s focus on convenience rather than complex features.

Durability is part of the pitch

Another notable point is the phone’s physical resilience. The Nova Y74 carries SGS 5-Star Drop Resistance certification, which indicates protection against drops from heights of up to 1.8 meters under certain conditions.

That certification is meant to give users more confidence in a device built for daily portability. Huawei appears to be targeting buyers who value reliability as much as battery life.

The company has not officially disclosed the chipset used in the Nova Y74. However, reports from technology media including GSMArena suggest it may use a Kirin 8000 family chip, based on similarities to the Huawei Enjoy 90 Plus sold in China.

Huawei has not announced global pricing for the Nova Y74 yet. Even so, the combination of a large battery, a 90Hz display, and reinforced durability makes it a notable option in the affordable smartphone segment.
