vivo is preparing a sharper push into foldable productivity with the X Fold 6, and the biggest draw is not only its design but also the custom silicon inside. The company has begun revealing details ahead of the device’s official launch later this month.
The phone is shaping up as a premium foldable built for people who split their time between multiple apps, large-screen workflows, and AI-assisted tasks. That positioning matters because foldables are increasingly judged by how well they handle real multitasking, not just by how they look when unfolded.
A custom chip built for foldables
At the center of the X Fold 6 is the Dimensity 9500 Super Edition, a chipset described as the first of its kind for this device class. It is not a standard MediaTek flagship processor, but a customized platform developed together with vivo.
According to vivo, work on the platform has been underway for nearly two years. The long development window was meant to align the hardware more closely with the needs of modern foldables and their larger displays.
That approach reflects a simple reality: foldable users often run several apps at once, keep multiple windows open, and rely on the bigger screen for work as much as entertainment. A generic flagship setup is not always enough for that pattern of use.
More room for multitasking and AI
vivo says the custom chipset is tuned for heavier scenarios such as multitasking, multi-thread processing, and multi-window rendering. Those are exactly the kinds of tasks that can make a foldable feel either genuinely productive or frustratingly slow.
The company is also highlighting a major jump in AI performance. Peak AI capability is claimed to be up to 111% higher than the previous generation, while power consumption is said to be 56% lower.
That combination is important because AI features can be demanding in daily use. Lower energy draw should help those tools stay useful without putting too much pressure on the battery.
AI tools aimed at everyday work
For daily productivity, vivo is introducing a new AI Voice engine. It is said to deliver offline transcription up to seven times faster, which could matter for meetings, notes, and quick voice-to-text work.
Voice recognition accuracy is also up by about 7%, while AI-generated summaries are claimed to be 57% faster. Those gains are aimed at users who want their phone to do more of the reading, listening, and sorting for them.
The AI File Manager has also been updated with more advanced Large Language Model capabilities. vivo says text summarization and question-answering functions now run about 20% faster.
One of the newer additions is AI Topic Question, a feature designed to pull specific information from documents more quickly and in a more contextual way. On a foldable screen, that kind of search and review workflow can be especially practical.

On the software side, the X Fold 6 will run OriginOS 6 Fold. vivo says the system is designed to better connect the hardware and software layers, especially around AI usage.
The custom chipset also powers a new concurrency engine that supports the next-generation Atomic Workbench. This technology is intended to keep several apps active at the same time while making window switching feel smoother.
vivo is also promising more responsive drag-and-drop file handling. Together, those changes point to a foldable that is being tuned as much for workflow as for raw performance.
Large battery and triple-camera setup
Beyond the software and AI story, the X Fold 6 is also expected to come with a 6,900mAh battery. That capacity suggests vivo wants the device to last through long days of heavy use.
The rear camera system is said to include three sensors: a 200MP main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, and a 50MP periscope telephoto camera. For security, vivo is expected to keep the fingerprint sensor on the side of the body.
