Huawei is reportedly testing a new flagship phone with a screen ratio that is far from standard in today’s premium market. The device is said to use a 16:10 display, a format more often associated with tablets than conventional smartphones.
If the leak is accurate, the phone could stand out immediately among non-folding flagship models. Most premium phones now lean toward tall and narrow displays, while Huawei’s test device is described as shorter and wider.
A wider display that changes the experience
The 16:10 format is expected to affect everyday use in a practical way. A broader horizontal canvas can make multitasking easier, improve document reading, and create a more comfortable viewing surface for videos and productivity tasks.
The early details came from two gadget tipsters, Digital Chat Station and Smart Pikachu. Both say Huawei is testing a candybar-style, non-folding phone with this unusual ratio.
Leaked information also points to a 6.39-inch screen with 2K-class resolution. The diagonal size is not especially large, but the wider shape gives the phone a very different profile from most flagship rivals.
That profile is said to feel closer to the inner screen of a compact foldable phone. The key difference is that Huawei is reportedly bringing that experience to a regular non-folding handset.
Premium hardware is also being discussed
Beyond the display, the rumored device is said to carry a 50 MP main camera with a 1/1.3-inch sensor. It is also expected to include a 50 MP periscope telephoto camera and a multispectral sensor for better color accuracy and light processing.
Performance is believed to come from a Kirin 9000 series chipset. The exact model has not been revealed, but the reference to that line suggests a high-end class of hardware.
Battery capacity is another major talking point. Huawei is said to be preparing a 7,000 mAh battery for the phone, which would be a notably large figure for a flagship device.
The leak also indicates wireless charging support. That combination would place the phone among the more ambitious premium models in terms of both endurance and convenience.
Not Huawei’s top-tier line, but still ambitious
Despite those premium traits, the device is not said to sit at the very top of Huawei’s lineup. According to Smart Pikachu, it is aimed at the mid-to-high-end segment rather than the company’s highest flagship tier.
That means the phone would sit below the Mate series, which remains Huawei’s top-end family. The positioning suggests Huawei may be preparing an experimental premium product without making it the brand’s main flagship statement.
There is also some historical context behind the idea. Huawei previously explored a similar broad-screen concept with the Pura X foldable, although the new device under testing is described as a non-folding model.
Launch timing remains uncertain
Current chatter places the phone’s possible debut near the end of the year, with December 2026 mentioned most often after the Mate 90 series launch. For now, however, Huawei has not confirmed the device or its name.
That leaves the leak open to change in design, specifications, and market placement before any official announcement. Even so, the combination of a 16:10 display, high-capacity battery, and foldable-like visual shape makes this one of Huawei’s more unusual rumored flagships.
