Xiaomi has started opening pre-orders for the Redmi K90 Ultra in China, signaling that the device is close to launch even though the company has not confirmed an exact date. The phone is expected to arrive this month and is being positioned as a new flagship in the Redmi K90 family.
The move comes shortly after the Redmi K90 Max debuted in China last month, but the Ultra variant appears to be the more ambitious model in the lineup. Xiaomi has already begun teasing the device on Weibo, giving the market its first look at the design and the product direction.
A clear push toward gaming performance
The strongest message so far is Xiaomi’s focus on gaming, highlighted by the promotional line translated from Chinese as “3K gaming performance.” That wording suggests the Redmi K90 Ultra is being built to appeal to users who want sustained high-end speed rather than just headline specs.
Earlier reports indicate the phone may use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite octa-core chipset, a 2024 flagship platform that already powers a number of premium phones. If that information proves accurate, the Redmi K90 Ultra will land firmly in the performance-first segment.
Thermal control also appears to be part of the plan, with the device reportedly including a built-in active fan. Such a system is typically used to keep temperatures stable during demanding tasks, especially extended gaming sessions.
This combination points to a device designed not only for peak performance, but also for consistency under pressure. For a phone that Xiaomi is openly framing around gaming, that balance may matter as much as raw speed.
Large display and a battery built for endurance
The Redmi K90 Ultra is also said to feature a 6.89-inch LTPS OLED display with 1.5K resolution and a refresh rate of up to 165Hz. That spec mix suggests a large, fluid panel suited to fast-moving games and smooth everyday navigation.
The display size also places the phone in the territory of devices meant for heavy media use, not just quick gaming bursts. A high refresh rate at this scale should make the interface feel noticeably more responsive if the final hardware matches the reports.
Battery capacity is another major talking point, with the Redmi K90 Ultra rumored to pack 8,000mAh or more. If confirmed, that would make endurance one of the phone’s most important selling points.
That larger battery would fit the rest of the device’s direction, since a flagship chip, a high-refresh panel, and active cooling can all place heavy demands on power. Xiaomi appears to be aiming for a phone that can stay aggressive without forcing constant charging breaks.
Other premium features are beginning to surface
Beyond performance and battery life, the phone is also rumored to carry IP68 certification for dust and water resistance. That would give the Redmi K90 Ultra a more complete flagship profile instead of leaving it in pure gaming-phone territory.
Another reported feature is an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, which is typically associated with faster and more advanced unlocking on higher-end devices. Together with the other leaks, it suggests Xiaomi is not treating this model as a stripped-down performance special.
Even with those details emerging, key parts of the package remain unconfirmed. Xiaomi has not disclosed the final camera setup, memory configurations, pricing, or the precise launch schedule.
The Redmi K90 Ultra also arrives with context from its predecessor, the Redmi K80 Ultra, which launched in June last year with MediaTek’s Dimensity 9400+ octa-core chipset and a 7,410mAh battery. Against that background, the new model is shaping up as a meaningful step forward for the Redmi Ultra series.
For now, the only certainty is that the Redmi K90 Ultra is headed for China this month and that pre-orders are already live. The remaining details are likely to be revealed gradually as Xiaomi moves closer to the official announcement.
