Xiaomi may use a new foldable phone as the first stage for HyperOS 4, rather than waiting for the Xiaomi 18 series. The possibility grew stronger after a device with model number 2608BPX34C appeared in network certification documents.
The same model number has already been linked to Xiaomi’s next foldable in earlier reports. That makes the device a strong candidate to become the company’s next premium foldable and, potentially, the first phone to run the new software.
A foldable now looks like the software showcase
According to Digital Chat Station, the foldable may debut HyperOS 4 before Xiaomi’s regular flagship lineup does. If that happens, Xiaomi would be placing its foldable at the center of its next software and hardware push.
That strategy would also fit reports that the same device could use a Xiaomi-made chip. A foldable with an internal processor and a new operating system would give Xiaomi more control over performance, power efficiency, and AI features.
What the certification documents reveal
The certification records confirm 5G support, along with UWB, or Ultra-Wideband. UWB is commonly used for precise short-range device-to-device connectivity, making it one of the more notable details in the filing.
The commercial name has not been confirmed, but earlier rumors have pointed to either Xiaomi Mix Fold 5 or Xiaomi 17 Fold. For now, the model number is the clearest clue that the device belongs to Xiaomi’s next foldable family.
Why Xiaomi 18 is being left behind in the timeline
Digital Chat Station also suggested that the foldable may arrive first because the Xiaomi 18 series has not yet appeared in certification. In the smartphone industry, certification often signals that launch plans are moving closer.
That gap in the paperwork is what makes the foldable’s early debut feel plausible. It also suggests Xiaomi could be changing its launch order, choosing a more experimental premium product to introduce its next software generation.
HyperOS 4 is being built around AI
HyperOS 4 is said to be under development with AI integrated directly into system apps. That points to a deeper software shift, with AI becoming part of the everyday interface rather than an added layer.
The new system is also expected to support miclaw AI agent. Xiaomi has not explained the implementation in detail, but the direction makes clear that AI will be one of the key themes of the next release.
Premium hardware could raise the price
Earlier June reports said Xiaomi is developing the foldable with its XRING O3 in-house chip. The device is also rumored to carry a 200-megapixel camera, which would place it firmly in flagship territory.
Another leak says the inner display may be wider than the one on Mix Fold 4. Combined with a price that could reach 10,000 yuan, up from the 8,999 yuan launch price of Mix Fold 4, the device appears to be heading toward a more ambitious premium position.
If those details hold, the foldable would not just be a hardware refresh. It would become Xiaomi’s showcase for a new chip, a larger screen, high-resolution imaging, and the first public appearance of HyperOS 4.
The certification trail suggests the launch is getting closer, even if Xiaomi has not said anything officially yet. For now, the biggest question is whether this foldable will indeed beat the Xiaomi 18 series to market and become the company’s first HyperOS 4 phone.
