Vivo X Fold 6 Leaves Snapdragon Behind, AI Gains and 200 MP Camera Take Center Stage

Vivo is preparing a notable shift with the X Fold 6, and the biggest surprise is not just the new foldable design. The company is moving away from Snapdragon and placing the device on MediaTek’s Dimensity 9500 Super Edition instead.

That decision gives the X Fold line a new identity after years of relying on Qualcomm. From the first X Fold through the X Fold 3 and X Fold 5, Snapdragon chips had defined the series.

AI performance becomes the main selling point

Vivo has confirmed that the X Fold 6 uses the Dimensity 9500 Super Edition, not the standard version of the chip. According to Vivo Product Manager Han Boxiao, the biggest improvement is in the NPU, which is said to be 111 percent faster than the regular Dimensity 9500.

The company also says AI processing power consumption is 56 percent lower than the regular version. Those claims suggest Vivo wants to position the X Fold 6 as more than a premium foldable, with AI efficiency set to play a central role in daily use.

For a foldable phone, that kind of efficiency matters. Multitasking, power management, and battery behavior all become more important when a device is expected to handle large displays and heavier workloads.

A 200 MP camera system with Zeiss support

Vivo is also pushing hard on imaging. The X Fold 6 will feature a 200 MP main camera built around Samsung’s HPB sensor, which measures 1/1.4 inches and carries an f/1.68 aperture.

Alongside it, Vivo is adding a Zeiss APO 50 MP periscope telephoto camera using Sony’s LYT-602 sensor. Both cameras are rated to meet CIPA 4.5 stabilization standards, indicating up to 4.5 stops of shake reduction.

The camera setup goes further than the hardware alone. Vivo says the X Fold 6 can work with the Zeiss 200 mm Teleconverter G2 and a 2.35x teleconverter, accessories that were previously available for the Vivo X200 Ultra.

That move points to a more flexible photography approach. Instead of focusing only on high megapixel counts, Vivo is linking the foldable to a wider Zeiss-based ecosystem for longer-range shooting.

Large display and foldable-first software

The X Fold 6 will carry an 8.02-inch main display using Samsung M14 panel technology. The panel choice suggests Vivo is keeping the device in premium territory, where screen quality remains one of the main selling points.

The phone will also run OriginOS 6 Fold, an interface tailored for foldable use. That should help the large screen work better in multitasking and other scenarios where a standard smartphone layout is not enough.

Vivo has not shared every technical detail yet, but the information already revealed makes the device look clearly aimed at productivity, imaging, and AI-driven performance rather than a simple hardware refresh.

Rumored extras before launch

Several other details remain unconfirmed and are still circulating as rumors. The X Fold 6 is said to include a 6.51-inch outer display, a 6,900 mAh battery, and a 50 MP ultrawide camera.

If that battery figure proves accurate, it would be an upgrade over the X Fold 5, which came with a 6,000 mAh battery. A larger battery would make sense for a foldable with a big internal screen and a stronger AI focus.

Vivo has not revealed the price yet. Full specifications and pricing are expected to be announced at the official launch on June 26 in China.

For now, the X Fold 6 stands out because of how sharply Vivo is changing its formula. The combination of a new MediaTek chip, a 200 MP camera, and a large 8.02-inch display shows a foldable built around AI, imaging, and premium productivity.
