Vivo X Fold 6 Takes Aim at Galaxy Z Fold, 200MP Camera and Long Zoom Lead the Charge

Vivo is preparing a foldable that tries to solve one of the category’s biggest trade-offs: keeping a large-screen experience without giving up flagship camera hardware. The X Fold 6 is shaping up as a direct challenge to rivals that still force buyers to compromise on imaging.

That positioning matters because many foldables win on design and display, but stop short of delivering the kind of camera package expected from a premium non-folding phone. Vivo appears determined to close that gap with a setup built around photography first.

Camera hardware is the main weapon

The most prominent headline feature is a 200MP main camera with a large 1/1.4-inch sensor. Vivo says the same sensor is used in the Vivo X300 Ultra, which gives the foldable an unusually serious imaging foundation for its class.

According to Vivo executive Han Boxiao on Weibo, the phone will also include a ZEISS APO Super Telephoto camera with a Sony LYT-602 sensor. The combination extends Vivo’s partnership with ZEISS into a more premium foldable package.

Vivo is also adding its in-house V3+ imaging chip to handle photo processing. That suggests the company is treating image quality as a system-wide priority rather than relying on megapixels alone.

Zoom is built for distance

One of the most eye-catching additions is support for a ZEISS G2 telephoto converter. With that accessory, the X Fold 6 can capture images equivalent to 200mm, giving users much more reach when shooting distant subjects.

Han Boxiao said the setup is well suited to concert photography, which makes sense for users who want a foldable that can do more than casual snapshots. The added flexibility could make the X Fold 6 stand out in a category where long-range zoom is often limited.

There is still a clear boundary, however. Unlike the Vivo X300 Ultra, the X Fold 6 does not support the stronger 400mm teleconverter, keeping the foldable distinct from Vivo’s most aggressive camera flagship.

Vivo has already shared sample images to show what the hardware can do, although the real verdict will depend on hands-on testing after launch.

A large display with unusually high brightness

The X Fold 6 is not only about cameras. Vivo says the inner display will measure 8.02 inches and use Samsung M14 luminous material.

According to the company, the panel can reach a peak brightness of 5,000 nits outdoors. It can also drop to 1 nit, which should make nighttime use more comfortable.

That range points to a practical display strategy. Vivo seems to want the screen to stay readable in harsh sunlight while remaining gentle in dark environments.

Performance and productivity also matter

Vivo has already teased that the X Fold 6 will run on the Dimensity 9500 Super Edition processor. The phone will also support desktop mode when connected to an external display.

That feature makes the foldable look less like a media-only device and more like a tool for multitasking. On a large-screen phone, desktop mode can become one of the most useful features for work and productivity.

There is also a rumor about a 7,000mAh battery, but Vivo has not confirmed it. Until the company says otherwise, that detail should be treated as unverified.

A serious push into the foldable race

The X Fold 6 is scheduled to launch in China later this month, and its availability outside China will matter if Vivo wants to pressure Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold line more directly. A strong specification sheet can attract attention, but broader reach is what turns that attention into real market impact.

Even so, the device already sends a clear message. With a 200MP camera, ZEISS optics, V3+ imaging support, 200mm-equivalent zoom, and an 8.02-inch display, Vivo is trying to redefine what a premium foldable should offer.
