Android 17 Leaves Pixel 8 to 10 Struggling, Touchscreens and 5G Break Down

Android 17 has triggered a wave of complaints among Pixel owners after its rollout began in mid-June 2026. Users across several models report touchscreen glitches, missing 5G connectivity, and Wi-Fi problems that have disrupted daily use.

The complaints are not confined to one device family. Reports have surfaced from Pixel 8, Pixel 9, and Pixel 10 users most often, while some Pixel 7 and Pixel 6 owners have also described similar issues.

Touch input becomes unreliable

One of the most visible problems involves the touchscreen. Some users say their phones briefly stop responding to taps and swipes without any clear pattern.

Another unusual complaint is gesture inversion, where swiping up can make the screen scroll down, and the opposite gesture produces the reverse effect. Because the issue appears across multiple models after the update, it is being viewed more as a software bug than a hardware fault.

Pixel 10 appears to be among the most frequently affected devices, but similar complaints have also been reported on Pixel 9, Pixel 8, and Pixel 7 phones.

5G disappears and devices fall back to LTE

Connectivity has become another major concern. Several users, especially those with Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a, and some Pixel 6a units, say 5G vanished after the update was installed.

In some cases, the phone remains stuck on LTE. Other reports say the device loses signal entirely after the update process finishes.

Some users have also reported that their eSIM profile disappears after a restart, adding another layer of difficulty because carrier access becomes unstable or unavailable.

Wi-Fi and Google apps are also affected

Wi-Fi problems have joined the list, with some devices failing to reconnect automatically. A number of users also say core Google apps do not load properly or stop working as expected when the phone is connected to Wi-Fi.

The apps mentioned include Google app, YouTube, Gmail, Play Store, Google Keep, and Google Photos. That makes the issue more serious, since it reaches several basic services many users rely on throughout the day.

Temporary fixes exist, but no permanent patch yet

For touchscreen issues, some users have found that turning the “Smooth Display” setting off and back on can help for a while. Even so, the effect is not consistent across all affected devices.

For network problems, Pixel community moderators recommend resetting mobile network settings through Settings > System > Reset options > Reset mobile network settings.

That process clears saved Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and cellular settings, but it does not erase personal files or app data. Many users say it restores 5G, although it is still only a temporary workaround rather than a full system fix.

Google is aware of the issue

Google has acknowledged the problem, but no official fix had been released at the time the reports circulated. Users affected by Android 17 are now waiting for the next patch cycle to see whether the bug will be addressed.

For now, Pixel 8, Pixel 9, and Pixel 10 owners who have already updated are being advised to monitor touchscreen response, 5G stability, and Wi-Fi behavior closely. Reports can also be sent through the system feedback tool or shared in the official Pixel community forum to help Google measure the scale of the issue.
