Xiaomi is reportedly preparing a privacy-focused display feature for its premium phones, and the move could become one of its sharpest weapons in the next flagship fight. The company is said to be targeting Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra with a screen that is easier for owners to use, but much harder for people nearby to read.
The feature centers on an advanced 2K front panel with an anti-peek system built to protect what is shown on screen in public. According to GSM Arena, as cited by Detik iNET, the display works by disabling certain pixel elements across the panel so the interface fades or darkens when viewed from an angle.
Privacy becomes part of the premium pitch
That approach reflects a wider shift in the flagship market, where privacy is turning into a selling point rather than a bonus feature. Xiaomi appears to be aiming beyond raw specifications by offering a more secure viewing experience for users who often handle sensitive messages, work data, or personal accounts in crowded places.
The idea is simple but practical. From the front, the screen should remain comfortable to use, while side glances become far less useful because the content can look blurry or dark at certain viewing angles.
At the same time, Xiaomi is not abandoning the design language that has already set its top-end phones apart. The Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max are still rumored to keep a secondary display on the rear body.
That rear screen is now said to grow to 4 inches, giving users a larger preview area when taking selfies with the main rear camera. In practice, that could make the back camera more useful for self-portraits and improve image quality compared with relying on a standard front camera.
Camera hardware remains a major battleground
Photography is also expected to stay at the center of Xiaomi’s next premium lineup. The two higher-end models are reportedly set to feature a dual 200 MP rear camera system, a specification aimed at delivering stronger detail and better sharpness when images are enlarged.
That camera push will likely be paired with serious performance upgrades as well. The Xiaomi 18 Pro series is said to use Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, Qualcomm’s latest chip designed to handle heavy workloads and AI processing.
| Model | Reported Highlights |
|---|---|
| Xiaomi 18 Pro | 6.3-inch display, 7,000 mAh or larger battery, rear secondary screen |
| Xiaomi 18 Pro Max | 6.9-inch display, larger rear secondary screen, dual 200 MP rear cameras |
Two sizes, two clear targets
Xiaomi appears to be positioning the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max for different types of buyers. The smaller model is aimed at users who want a more compact 6.3-inch phone, but still demand long battery life, with a capacity rumored at 7,000 mAh or higher.
The larger Xiaomi 18 Pro Max is meant for those who prefer a 6.9-inch display for media consumption and productivity. If the current production and global release timeline stays unchanged, the entire Xiaomi 18 Pro series is expected to be introduced in September.
