HMD is reportedly preparing a new entry-level phone that leans heavily on two features usually reserved for more expensive devices: a 120Hz display and a 6000mAh battery. In a crowded budget segment, that combination stands out because it directly targets the two things many users care about most, smooth everyday use and long battery life.
If the leak proves accurate, the Luma2 will arrive as a more capable follow-up to the HMD Luma 4G. The phone appears designed to improve the day-to-day experience without moving away from the affordable category that defines the product line.
A larger screen, but the real draw is the refresh rate
The HMD Luma2 is said to feature a 6.75-inch IPS LCD display with HD+ resolution. While that panel does not reach Full HD+, the 120Hz refresh rate could make scrolling, menu transitions, and general navigation feel noticeably smoother.
That approach makes sense for an entry-level phone aimed at people who spend a lot of time on social media, browsing, or watching video. An 8MP front camera is placed at the top of the display for selfies and video calls.
Practical camera setup for everyday use
On the back, the Luma2 is expected to use a 50MP main camera paired with one additional sensor. The setup points to daily tasks such as capturing documents, quick snapshots, and sharing images online.
The secondary sensor has not been revealed, but the overall arrangement suggests HMD is focusing on useful basics rather than an elaborate camera system. That is a familiar strategy in the affordable segment, where reliability and simplicity often matter more than complex hardware.
Unisoc T7280 and storage options up to 256GB
Performance is tipped to come from the Unisoc T7280, said to be a rebrand of the Unisoc T620. The octa-core chip uses two performance cores and six efficiency cores, which should be enough for browsing, streaming, social apps, and light multitasking.
The handset is also rumored to ship with 4GB of RAM and virtual RAM expansion. Storage options are expected to include 128GB and 256GB variants using UFS 2.1, plus a microSD card slot for additional capacity.
Battery life looks like the strongest selling point
The biggest headline feature of the HMD Luma2 is its 6000mAh battery. That size gives the phone a strong chance of lasting through a full day with less concern about frequent charging, especially for users who want a dependable device for routine use.
Charging is said to support 18W wired input. It is not especially fast, but it matches the phone’s practical and budget-conscious positioning.
Small but useful details remain in place
HMD is also keeping the 3.5mm headphone jack on the Luma2, which remains important for many users who still rely on wired earphones. The device is additionally said to support OZO Audio, a technology originally developed by Nokia for better recording and listening experiences.
The leak also points to three color options: Ice Blue, Light Sand, and Midnight Lake. Those finishes give the phone a more polished look than many plain budget models.
Linked to M-Kopa financing
The Luma2 is said to be part of HMD’s collaboration with M-Kopa, a device financing service that helps millions of users in emerging markets access smartphones through installment plans. Those plans are often paired with extra services such as data packages and insurance.
That partnership could make the phone easier to reach for buyers who want a functional device with more flexible payment options. HMD has not yet disclosed the official price, launch timing, or software support policy for the Luma2.
