Redmi is preparing the K90 Ultra as one of its most aggressive performance phones yet, and the early details point to a device built with gamers in mind. The combination of Snapdragon 8 Elite, a 165Hz display, and a rumored 8,000mAh battery makes it stand out before the official launch even begins.
The phone is confirmed to debut in China later this month, with Xiaomi already opening pre-orders through official channels such as Xiaomi Mall, JD.com, Tmall, and other sales platforms in the country. That early rollout suggests the company is positioning the model as a major addition to the Redmi K lineup.
Placed Below Redmi K90 Max
Lu Weibing has said the Redmi K90 Ultra will sit below the Redmi K90 Max in the series hierarchy. That placement points to a high-performance model that still aims to stay more accessible on price than the top-tier variant.
Official pricing has not been announced, but expectations place it around CNY 2,999. For comparison, the Redmi K80 Ultra launched at CNY 2,599 for the 12GB/256GB version.
A Larger Display With A Faster Refresh Rate
On the display side, the Redmi K90 Ultra is rumored to use a 6.89-inch LTPS OLED panel with 1.5K resolution. Its most notable upgrade is the 165Hz refresh rate, which is higher than the 144Hz panel on its predecessor.
That specification makes the device especially appealing for fast-paced gaming and smoother everyday navigation. Leaks also mention an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and a metal frame for a more premium feel.
Snapdragon 8 Elite And Active Cooling
For performance, the Redmi K90 Ultra is said to rely on the Snapdragon 8 Elite. The chipset is widely regarded as one of the most powerful Android processors available and should handle demanding workloads with ease.
To keep performance stable during long gaming sessions, Xiaomi is reportedly adding an active cooling system with an internal fan. That kind of solution is usually reserved for premium gaming phones designed to reduce throttling under heavy heat.
The device is also expected to carry IP68 certification. On the software side, it may launch with HyperOS 3 based on Android 16.
Battery Capacity Could Be Its Biggest Advantage
The most eye-catching rumor centers on the battery. Several leaks and certifications suggest the capacity could reach 8,000mAh or even higher.
If that proves accurate, the Redmi K90 Ultra would join the group of flagship phones with the largest batteries on the market. A 100W fast-charging support hinted at by 3C certification would help make such a large battery practical for daily use.
For reference, the Redmi K80 Ultra came with a 7,410mAh battery and 100W fast charging. The increase in capacity would be one of the most noticeable upgrades in the next Ultra generation.
Cameras Remain Focused On The Basics
The camera setup does not appear to be the main priority here, based on the leaks so far. The Redmi K90 Ultra is expected to keep a setup similar to the Redmi K80 Ultra, with a 50MP main camera and an 8MP ultra-wide camera at the rear.
For selfies and video calls, a 20MP front camera is still listed as the likely option. The overall package makes clear that Xiaomi is prioritizing performance, display quality, and battery life over a more ambitious camera overhaul.
With that formula, the Redmi K90 Ultra could become one of the most interesting gaming-focused phones to emerge from Xiaomi’s camp. The final verdict will depend on the official announcement, which should confirm pricing, memory configurations, and the full specification sheet.
