Consumer Cellular has introduced SpeakEasy, a new mobile brand built specifically for users aged 75 and older. The move places senior users at the center of the product strategy, rather than treating them as an afterthought.
The launch arrives with two devices, SpeakEasy Flip and SpeakEasy Smart, both paired with simplified service plans intended to make everyday communication easier. Consumer Cellular says the offer is designed for older adults who want straightforward technology to stay connected with family and friends.
Two devices built for easier use
SpeakEasy Flip is the most basic option in the lineup. The flip phone uses large buttons, easy-to-reach volume controls, and a high-power speaker to improve call clarity.
The device is priced at US$79.95. Its approach is intentionally minimal, focusing on core calling functions instead of layered features.
SpeakEasy Smart takes a similar approach while using an Android smartphone format. It includes a large display and a simplified operating system tailored for older users.
| Device | Key Features | Price |
|---|---|---|
| SpeakEasy Flip | Large buttons, easy-to-reach volume controls, high-power speaker | US$79.95 |
| SpeakEasy Smart | Large display, enlarged icons and buttons, simplified Android interface | US$99.95 |
On the SpeakEasy Smart, the interface uses larger icons and buttons. Users can access calls, text messages, the camera, and video through a layout that is easier to understand.
The smartphone costs US$99.95. Although the interface is simplified, both devices remain based on Android, allowing users to stay within the same ecosystem.
Service plans keep the offer simple
SpeakEasy also includes service plans that are more compact than typical wireless bundles. The Connect plan starts at US$14.95 per month and includes unlimited talk and text plus 500 MB of data.
For users who need more data, Connect+ is priced at US$19.95 per month and includes 3 GB. Consumer Cellular also plans to offer ConnectCare+, which will add 24-hour emergency response and a companion app, although availability has not yet been announced.
| Plan | Monthly Price | What It Includes |
|---|---|---|
| Connect | US$14.95 | Unlimited talk and text, 500 MB data |
| Connect+ | US$19.95 | Unlimited talk and text, 3 GB data |
| ConnectCare+ | Not announced | 24-hour emergency response, companion app |
To mark the launch, new customers receive two months of service free. Consumer Cellular is also offering free device shipping through the end of December 2026 for purchases and activations made through official channels.
Why the company is betting on seniors
For more than three decades, Consumer Cellular has served customers aged 50 and above in the United States. SpeakEasy is now the company’s first independent brand within its mobile virtual network operator portfolio.
Ed Evans, the company’s chairman and CEO, said many older customers want easy-to-use technology that helps them stay in touch with family and friends. He added that SpeakEasy was built from the ground up for users aged 75 and older.
The timing also reflects a broader issue in wireless design. Consumer Cellular cites AARP data showing that three in five people over 50 feel modern technology is not built around their needs.
That challenge is even more pronounced for people aged 75 and older, who often face digital devices that are too complex for daily use. By narrowing the experience, SpeakEasy aims to remove much of that friction while preserving the essentials of calling, messaging, and simple smartphone access.
SpeakEasy is available through Consumer Cellular retail stores, U.S.-based customer service centers, and the company’s official online sales channel. With more than four million customers in the United States, the operator is giving the new brand an immediate path into an already large user base.
