Samsung Foldables and Nothing Phone (4b) Turn July Into a High-Stakes Smartphone Month

July is shaping up to be one of the busiest months for smartphone launches in India, with premium foldables, camera-focused devices, and a new Nothing phone all expected within weeks of each other. For buyers waiting to upgrade, the next few weeks could decide whether it makes sense to buy now or hold off a little longer.

The most expensive names on the list belong to Samsung, but the month is not only about ultra-premium hardware. Nothing is preparing a more accessible option, while Oppo and Motorola are also expected to add fresh devices across different price bands.

Samsung is expected to command the biggest attention

Samsung is widely expected to use its Galaxy Unpacked event on 22 July to spotlight its next foldables. Reports suggest the company will introduce three foldable devices, including two different Fold models in the same generation.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 is said to arrive with a wider design, while Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is expected to keep the taller format that has become familiar in previous Fold models. Both devices are rumored to run on the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset.

Other expected upgrades include a larger battery, a slimmer body, and improved cameras compared with their predecessors. Pricing is rumored to start at around Rs 1.75 lakh for the Galaxy Z Fold 8, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra could go beyond Rs 2.1 lakh.

Samsung is also expected to launch the Galaxy Z Flip 8 on the same date. The flip-style model is said to feature a slightly thinner body and the Exynos 2600 chipset.

Changes to the Z Flip 8 are described as more of a refinement than a full redesign. The expected price range sits between Rs 1.10 lakh and Rs 1.20 lakh.

Nothing aims at a lower entry point

At the other end of the market, Nothing has confirmed a new B-series phone for 7 July. The device will launch as the Nothing Phone (4b), positioned below the Phone (4a) in the company’s lineup.

Leaks point to the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 processor, with NothingOS based on Android 16 and the brand’s familiar transparent design language. Other reported details include a dual rear camera setup and a battery of around 5,400mAh.

Price expectations place the Nothing Phone (4b) in the Rs 28,000 to Rs 30,000 range. That could make it one of the most broadly appealing launches of the month for buyers seeking something more affordable than Samsung’s foldables.

Oppo and Motorola add more pressure to the mid-premium segment

Oppo is expected to kick off the month with the Reno 16 series on 2 July. Two models are said to be headed to India: the Oppo Reno 16 and Oppo Reno 16c.

The Reno 16 is rumored to use a 6.32-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, while the Reno 16c is expected to come with a slightly larger 6.57-inch panel. Both devices are being associated with camera improvements and durability-focused features.

Other reported highlights include an AI Snap Key, multiple IP ratings, an aluminum frame, and a large battery. The Reno 16 is expected to cost around Rs 60,000, while the Reno 16c is likely to be positioned a little lower at around Rs 50,000.

Motorola is also expected to bring the Razr 70 series to India after its global debut. The local launch date has not been confirmed, but reports suggest both models could arrive at any point during July.

The Razr 70 Ultra is tipped to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite, a large pOLED display, and a 5,000mAh battery. The regular Razr 70 is expected to target buyers looking for a more affordable flip phone.

Estimated pricing puts the Razr 70 at Rs 60,000 to Rs 70,000, while the Razr 70 Ultra could be priced between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 1.2 lakh.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 22 July Around Rs 1.75 lakh
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra 22 July Above Rs 2.1 lakh

Motorola Razr 70 July Around Rs 60,000-70,000
Motorola Razr 70 Ultra July Around Rs 1-1.2 lakh

The overall picture shows a crowded month that stretches from ultra-premium foldables to more reachable mid-range launches. Samsung may dominate the highest end of the market, but the strongest competition for attention could come from Nothing Phone (4b) and Oppo Reno 16, both of which are aimed at broader audiences.

If the projected schedule holds, India’s smartphone market will move through one of its busiest launch windows in recent months. Buyers watching the foldable segment will keep an eye on Samsung and Motorola, while those looking for lower entry prices will likely focus on Nothing and Oppo.
