Redmi K90 Ultra Turns Cooling Into Its Biggest Gaming Weapon

Redmi has positioned the K90 Ultra as a performance phone that is willing to do more than rely on a flagship chipset alone. Its most striking hardware choice is an active cooling fan built into the device, a feature rarely seen in mainstream smartphones.

That decision puts the K90 Ultra squarely in the gaming performance conversation. Redmi says the active fan can reduce temperatures by up to 10 degrees Celsius, helping limit throttling during sustained heavy workloads.

Built for longer gaming sessions

The cooling system is paired with Snapdragon 8 Elite and a dedicated D2 interpolation chip for gaming. Redmi describes the chipset as an older version of Snapdragon 8 Elite, but the company is clearly aiming to offset that with hardware designed to keep performance stable over time.

This approach matters most in long gaming sessions, where heat often becomes the main reason a phone slows down. With the fan, the chipset, and the D2 chip working together, the K90 Ultra is meant to stay fast not just on benchmarks, but under real pressure too.

Display, battery, and charging follow the same philosophy

The front of the device uses a flat 6.83-inch AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1280 x 2772 pixels. It supports a 165Hz refresh rate, 3,500 nits peak brightness, and full array DC dimming.

Those specifications reinforce the phone’s gaming-first identity. The high refresh rate should make motion feel smoother, while the bright panel is useful for visibility in different lighting conditions.

Redmi also equips the K90 Ultra with an 8,550mAh battery, which is unusually large for a high-end phone. It supports 100W wired charging and 22.5W reverse wired charging, and a 100W GaN charger is included in the box.

Cameras, audio, and durability are still part of the package

Although performance is the main story, the camera setup is not basic. The rear system includes a 50MP main camera with OIS and a 1/1.55-inch sensor, alongside an 8MP ultrawide camera and a 20MP front camera.

The phone also places emphasis on audio with symmetrical stereo speakers tuned by Bose. For a device intended for gaming and entertainment, that detail adds another layer to the overall experience.

Durability is another notable part of the package, with IP66, IP68, and IP69 certification for resistance against dust and water. On the software side, the K90 Ultra runs HyperOS 3 based on Android 16.

Pricing and variants in China

Redmi is offering the K90 Ultra in Space Silver, Shadow Black, and Sky Blue. The base model starts at 12GB RAM and 256GB storage, priced at CNY 2,999.

During a promotion, buyers at the CNY 2,999 price point can receive the 16GB RAM version, which normally sells for CNY 3,199. The 12GB/512GB model is priced at CNY 3,499, while the top trim with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage costs CNY 3,699.

That pricing makes the K90 Ultra feel aggressive for its domestic market, especially given the inclusion of active cooling, a large battery, a 165Hz display, and the bundled 100W charger. Outside China, however, the outlook is less certain, with a global release appearing unlikely for now even if a related model may later emerge under the Poco brand.
