TCL Tab A1 Plus Packs a 12.2-Inch 120Hz Screen and AI Into a Budget Tablet

TCL Tab A1 Plus is trying to blur the line between a budget tablet and a more premium device. Its headline appeal comes from a large 12.2-inch display, a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, and a set of AI features that are uncommon in its class.

That combination gives the tablet a clear position in the market. It is aimed at users who want a bigger screen for reading, work, and entertainment without moving into a higher price segment.

A large screen built for productivity and comfort

The display is a 12.2-inch 2.4K panel with a resolution of 2400 x 1600 pixels and a 3:2 aspect ratio. The taller layout makes it easier to open documents, read PDFs, and manage tasks with more vertical space.

TCL also equips the panel with adaptive 120Hz refresh, Next Vision technology, 100% sRGB color coverage, and brightness up to 550 nits. The company says the screen is designed to stay clear even in brighter conditions.

For longer viewing sessions, the tablet includes TUV Rheinland-certified low blue light protection and DC Dimming. Those additions are meant to reduce eye strain during extended use.

Metal design with a portable feel

Despite the large panel, TCL keeps the device relatively manageable. The body measures 6.7 mm thick and weighs 542 grams, which still leaves it portable enough for everyday use.

The unibody metal construction also gives the tablet a more solid feel than many budget models that rely on plastic. TCL further adds IP54 protection, which helps against dust and light water splashes in daily use.

Snapdragon performance with Android 16 out of the box

Under the hood, TCL Tab A1 Plus uses the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 built on a 4nm process. It is paired with 6GB of LPDDR5 RAM, and TCL says memory can be expanded by another 10GB through RAM Expansion.

Storage is set at 128GB, with MicroSD support up to 2TB. That setup should make the tablet more comfortable for multitasking, split-screen use, and floating windows.

The device ships with Android 16 and TCL UI 9. TCL also says the tablet can run popular games such as Call of Duty and Asphalt smoothly at standard graphics settings.

AI features and entertainment remain central

One of the most notable selling points is the integration of Google Gemini AI. Available features include Gemini Live for two-way voice chat, Gemini Overlay and Extensions for continued use without closing apps, and Circle to Search for searching items on screen.

The tablet also includes AI Tooling such as writing assist, text assist, and smart translator. These tools are aimed at summarizing and translating documents faster.

For entertainment, TCL includes Quad Speakers backed by Sound Booster, which it says can raise volume by up to 200%. That should make Netflix and YouTube viewing feel more cinematic on the large screen.

Battery life and optional accessories add flexibility

A 8,000 mAh battery powers the tablet, supported by 20W Power Delivery fast charging. TCL claims the battery can last up to 60 days in smart standby mode.

The device also includes float charging, which automatically cuts power once the battery is full. TCL positions the feature as a way to help preserve long-term battery health.

For users who want a more laptop-like setup, the tablet supports PC Mode and Mirror Mode. It is also compatible with the optional T Pen 2 stylus, which offers 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity, as well as a smart keyboard case.
