Casio has expanded its Baby-G lineup in Japan with the BGA-290SA series, a release that blends a lightweight build with a more polished metallic look. The two new models, BGA-290SA-6AJF and BGA-290SA-7AJF, are already open for pre-order and are scheduled to go on sale at the end of the month for ¥15,950.
The series is designed to stand out without losing the familiar Baby-G identity. Casio keeps the round case design simple, while the pale purple and soft white colorways give the watches a softer appearance than many resin-based sport models.
Model overview
| Model | Color | Weight | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| BGA-290SA-6AJF | Pale purple | 33 grams | ¥15,950 |
| BGA-290SA-7AJF | Soft white | 33 grams | ¥15,950 |
What gives the BGA-290SA a more premium impression is the dial treatment. Casio uses metallic Arabic numerals and a glossy vapor-deposition bezel ring, adding a refined finish that is uncommon in the line’s more basic resin-oriented styling.
The watch remains a hybrid analog-digital model, so it still uses physical hands together with a small digital display at the bottom of the dial. That setup keeps the look traditional while adding a compact space for extra information.
Built for daily wear and outdoor use
Despite the more fashion-forward presentation, Casio does not move away from the core Baby-G formula. The BGA-290SA series keeps shock resistance and 100-meter water resistance, making it suitable for everyday use, swimming, and general outdoor activities.
The case measures 45.2 x 41.5 x 10.1 mm, and the watch weighs just 33 grams. Together, those figures make the series one of the lighter options in its category and support Casio’s focus on comfort throughout the day.
Casio also sticks with practical materials. The case and strap are made of resin, while the display is protected by mineral glass.
Feature set stays full without becoming overcomplicated
Inside the compact body, Casio includes a broad set of functions that keep the watch useful beyond simple timekeeping. The BGA-290SA offers world time for 48 cities across 31 time zones, which should be helpful for users who track multiple regions.
It also includes a 1/100-second stopwatch, a 24-hour countdown timer, five daily alarms, and an hourly time signal. Those additions give the watch a fairly complete feature list for a non-smartwatch model.
Visibility is another priority. Casio equips the BGA-290SA with Double LED light, using one LED for the analog face and a separate LED backlight for the LCD display.
Both lighting systems support selectable illumination duration and afterglow, which helps the watch remain readable in darker environments. The brand also adds hand shift, a useful function that temporarily moves the analog hands aside when they block the digital display.
Battery life and market position
The BGA-290SA runs on a CR1025 battery, and Casio estimates battery life at about three years. That should appeal to buyers who want a low-maintenance watch without frequent charging.
The new Baby-G models arrive alongside other recent Casio launches, including the Pro Trek PRJ-01 with an analog dial, solar charging, and a carabiner clip, as well as five new automatic watches in the Edifice EFK-200 line.
For the Baby-G range, though, the message is clear. Casio is pushing a balance of light wear, solid protection, and a more refined finish, all within a watch that still feels compact and easy to live with.
By offering only two color choices, Casio keeps the lineup simple. The BGA-290SA-6AJF comes in pale purple, while the BGA-290SA-7AJF uses soft white, and both share the same hybrid display, round case, and metallic dial accents.
