Reno 16 Prices Jump Sharply, RAM Shortages Push Oppo Into a Costlier Tier

Oppo’s Reno 16 Series has arrived in Indonesia with noticeably higher pricing than the previous generation, and the biggest pressure point appears to be RAM availability. The lineup now starts at Rp 7.999.000 and reaches Rp 12.999.000, placing several models well above their Reno 15 counterparts.

The sharpest increase is seen on the Reno 16 5G, especially in the 8GB/256GB and 12GB/256GB configurations. Oppo says the jump reflects a difficult component environment, with memory supply tightening and exchange-rate pressure adding to the final retail price.

Model New Price Previous Price Increase
Reno 16 5G 8GB/256GB Rp 11.999.000 Rp 7.699.000 Rp 4.3 million, nearly 56%
Reno 16 5G 12GB/256GB Rp 12.999.000 Rp 8.299.000 Rp 4.7 million, above 56%
Reno 16F 5G 8GB/128GB Rp 7.999.000 Rp 5.499.000 Rp 2.5 million, around 45%
Reno 16F 5G 8GB/256GB Rp 8.699.000 Rp 5.999.000 Rp 2.7 million, around 45%

RAM supply is the main cost driver

Product Manager Oppo Indonesia, Deni Setiawan, said the rise is closely tied to the scarcity of RAM components. He explained that memory is currently harder to source, and that condition directly affects smartphone pricing.

He also noted that foreign-exchange movements are part of the burden. Taken together, the shortage of RAM and currency pressure make it difficult for Oppo to keep the Reno 16 Series at the same price level as before.

Reno 16F 5G also moves upward

The pricing change is not limited to the main Reno 16 5G model. Reno 16F 5G also carries a much higher tag than the Reno 15 F series, with both the 128GB and 256GB variants climbing by around 45%.

That means buyers looking at the more affordable F line still face a clear step-up in cost. Even so, Oppo positions the new series as a broader upgrade rather than a simple price adjustment.

More than a hardware refresh

Oppo says the price increase is matched by improvements in design, gaming comfort, performance, and AI integration. The company argues that the series brings added value beyond the numbers printed on the spec sheet.

One of the most visible updates is the 3D pop-up planet design. Deni said the research investment for this design was three to four times higher than the previous generation, while development took three to four times longer.

He added that the 3D pop-out effect on the back panel can be seen at around 5–15 mm without special glasses. That gives the Reno 16 Series a more distinctive visual identity in its class.

AI features are part of the value story

Oppo is also stressing creative and AI-based tools instead of focusing only on benchmark numbers. The company says the phones are tuned for everyday use, including game-image capture at up to 2K resolution for social sharing.

The Reno 16 Series includes AI functions for collage creation, visual manipulation, and pop-up effects directly from the phone system without relying on external apps. According to Deni, those capabilities require backend systems, servers, and data management that are not cheap to maintain.

For older Oppo models, the company says pricing is not expected to fluctuate heavily. Their launch prices were locked earlier, based on different manufacturing costs and market segmentation.
