iOS 27 Brings 12 New Changes, Apple Intelligence Is Now in Almost Every Core App

iOS 27 is being positioned by Apple as a release focused on performance optimization and bug fixes, but its most noticeable changes go far beyond maintenance. The update adds a series of features that make the iPhone feel more automatic, more organized, and more useful in daily tasks.

Apple Intelligence now appears across nearly every major built-in app, including the Lock Screen, Safari, Reminders, Calendar, Camera, Wallet, Shortcuts, Photos, Apple Maps, and even Messages. That broader reach is what gives iOS 27 its biggest practical impact for everyday users.

AI takes over more of the interface

One of the most visible additions is Expand on the Lock Screen, which uses Apple Intelligence to stretch image edges automatically so wallpapers can fill the display more naturally. It is especially helpful when a photo does not match the iPhone’s aspect ratio.

The same approach is also available in Photos, where the system analyzes the image content to create a more balanced result. Apple is also introducing a more compact clock layout on the Lock Screen, with the clock able to shrink and move to the upper-right corner for a cleaner appearance.

Browser, planning tools, and reminders become smarter

Safari gains Apple Intelligence support for grouping tabs by topic, making it easier to manage pages when tabs start piling up. Users can also trigger the grouping from the tab view with the option to automatically generate themes.

Reminders now understands natural language more effectively, allowing phrases about picking someone up or sending a photo at a specific time to become structured reminders with dates, times, and locations. Calendar receives a similar upgrade, recognizing people, time, and location details as users type to speed up event creation.

Messages, Wallet, and Shortcuts get more practical

Messages expands its tap-back style reply feature beyond iMessage and now supports SMS and RCS from Android phones as well. That means users can react to an individual message without opening or replying to the entire conversation.

Wallet also gets a more modern card interface, with membership, loyalty, rewards, and gift cards shown with custom backgrounds, company logos, important details, and clearer barcodes. Apple adds up to two quick action buttons beneath each card, such as opening a store map or checking reward points with a single tap.

Shortcuts is becoming easier to build as well, since users can describe the process they want and Apple Intelligence will assemble the automation flow. That lowers the barrier for people who want routine tasks handled with less manual setup.

Camera, Maps, and visual creation receive bigger upgrades

Camera is now tied more closely to Siri through Visual Intelligence, allowing the assistant to analyze what the lens sees and display information instantly. The system can identify plants, animals, and food, estimate calories, translate text, scan brochures to add events to Calendar, and even help split bills in certain scenarios.

Apple Maps upgrades Flyover with AI for a more realistic look, reconstructing trees, buildings, and landmarks with more detail, more accurate shapes, and livelier lighting effects. The enhancement now covers more than 350 cities worldwide, making aerial city views feel closer to a true 3D model.

Image Playground also moves into new territory by supporting realistic image generation for the first time. It can still create images from text descriptions or existing photos, but the output is no longer limited to illustration-style or cartoon-like visuals.

Photos and Liquid Glass gain more flexibility

The Photos app now allows slideshows to be created from any album or photo collection, not just Memories. Users can set transitions, background music, and duration, then save the result as a video or share it directly to social media.

Liquid Glass also gets a new adjustment option for users who feel the transparency effect is too strong. In Settings > Display > Liquid Glass, a slider lets users move from very clear to more opaque levels.

Taken together, the update shows that iOS 27 is doing more than improving stability. It is spreading Apple Intelligence deeper into core iPhone workflows, making many everyday actions faster, more automatic, and more personalized.

Area What Changes Practical Result
Lock Screen Expand wallpaper tool and compact clock placement Cleaner layout and better-fitting wallpapers
Safari Topic-based tab grouping Easier tab management
Messages Tap-back support for SMS and RCS Faster replies across platforms
Wallet New card design and quick action buttons More useful cards at a glance
Maps AI-enhanced Flyover More realistic city views

The update reflects Apple’s effort to make core apps feel less static and more aware of context. With AI now woven into so many parts of the system, iPhone users get a more hands-off experience without losing control over the details that matter.
