Oppo is reportedly preparing a major software consolidation across its phone brands, and the biggest change could land on users of OnePlus and Realme. OxygenOS and Realme UI may be discontinued for future global devices and replaced by ColorOS.
If that happens, the move would reshape the software identity of three brands that have long been seen as separate in both design and user experience. The reported goal is to reduce research and development costs by bringing three software teams under one system, according to a report first highlighted by Smartprix and cited by Android Headlines.
What the shift would mean for each brand
The change would likely be felt most strongly by OnePlus users. For years, OxygenOS has been associated with a lighter interface, faster performance, and very little bloatware, which has been one of the main reasons many buyers chose OnePlus over rivals.
Realme UI may face a smaller adjustment. That is because the interface has already been built on the ColorOS codebase from the beginning, with only relatively minor visual differences.
| Brand | Current Software | Possible Change | Main Impact |
|---|---|---|---|
| OnePlus | OxygenOS | May be replaced by ColorOS | Software identity could change significantly |
| Realme | Realme UI | May be replaced by ColorOS | Change is expected to feel less dramatic |
| Oppo | ColorOS | Could become the shared software face across brands | One platform for three phone lines |
Signs of consolidation are already appearing
There are already signs that the brands are being brought closer together in some markets. India Today reported that OnePlus websites in several European countries, including Germany and Spain, have started showing Oppo products.
The same report said OnePlus after-sales service in India is expected to fall under Oppo’s service network. If that happens, the consolidation would affect not only software but also the support experience for users.
Pete Lau’s 2021 announcement about merging the OxygenOS and ColorOS codebases is now being seen as the starting point for a broader strategy. The newer plan appears to extend beyond OnePlus and could also include Realme UI.
If the consolidation is completed, ColorOS would become the shared software face for three brands that have long maintained distinct identities. For longtime OnePlus users, that would mark a significant shift in one of the brand’s most recognizable traits.
