Galaxy Z Flip8 May Feel Noticeably Lighter, and 8 Grams Could Matter

Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold8 series and the Galaxy Z Flip8 at the Galaxy Unpacked event on 22 July. Ahead of that launch window, a new leak suggests the clamshell foldable may deliver a more comfortable feel in daily use.

According to tipster Ice Universe, the Galaxy Z Flip8 is said to weigh around 180 grams. If accurate, that would make it 8 grams lighter than the Galaxy Z Flip7, which weighs 188 grams.

A small change that could be felt in the hand

An 8-gram difference may look minor on paper, but it can matter on a foldable phone that is opened and closed constantly. A lighter device can also make the Galaxy Z Flip8 easier to carry, especially for users who want less bulk in a pocket or bag.

The same leak also indicates that the Galaxy Z Flip8 will measure 6.1 mm when unfolded. That figure does not include the rubber bumper around the inner display, and the thickness is said to increase to 6.6 mm if the bumper is counted.

Design refinements, not a full overhaul

Previous leaks have pointed to an improved hinge design and a less visible display crease on the Galaxy Z Flip8. Beyond that, the device is expected to keep many of the core components from the previous generation, including the cover display, battery capacity, and camera arrangement.

That suggests Samsung is focusing on refinement rather than a dramatic redesign. For the Galaxy Z Flip line, the emphasis appears to be on a smoother everyday experience without changing the core formula that has already defined the series.
