Huawei Pura 90s Pro Max Brings 200MP Telephoto to Global Markets

Huawei has expanded the Pura 90s series to global markets with two flagship phones that lean heavily on imaging hardware, premium displays, and 5G support. The headline feature is the Pura 90s Pro Max, which introduces a 200MP telephoto camera with an RYYB sensor.

That model sits above the Pura 90s Pro, which keeps several high-end components but trims certain features to create a more accessible flagship option. The split between the two devices comes down to screen size, charging speed, and telephoto camera setup.

A camera lineup built to stand out

The Pura 90s Pro Max uses a 200MP RYYB telephoto sensor measuring 1/1.28 inches behind an f/2.6 lens with 4x optical zoom. Huawei also adds 20x telephoto video through real-time RAW processing, CIPA 7.0 stabilization, and macro shooting from the same camera.

Its main camera carries a 50MP 1/1.28-inch sensor with LOFIC technology and RYYB configuration. The primary lens offers a variable aperture from f/1.4 to f/4.0 in 10 steps, while the ultra-wide camera uses a 40MP RYYB sensor with an f/2.2 lens.

The Pura 90s Pro keeps a 4x telephoto camera, but it uses a 50MP sensor and an f/2.1 lens with OIS and macro support down to 5 cm. Its main camera also uses a 50MP 1/1.28-inch RYYB sensor, although without LOFIC, and the ultra-wide unit drops to 12.5MP.

Two display sizes, two different priorities

The Pura 90s Pro uses a 6.6-inch LTPO display with a 1-120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 1,256 x 2,760 pixels. Huawei protects the flat panel with second-generation Kunlun Glass, keeping durability in focus on the smaller model.

The Pro Max increases the size to 6.9 inches with the same 1-120Hz LTPO refresh range and a resolution of 1,308 x 2,880 pixels. It uses original Kunlun Glass, and both phones get a special optical design that Huawei says reduces reflections by up to 70 percent.

Huawei also adds a diamond-like carbon layer and silicon nitride ceramic materials to improve scratch resistance by 16 times and drop resistance by 25 times. The Pro Max weighs 230 grams and measures 8.1 mm thick, while the Pro weighs 213 grams and is 8.2 mm thick.

New Kirin chip, 5G, and larger batteries

Both phones are powered by the Kirin 9030S from HiSilicon, a new chip that replaces the Kirin 9020 used in the earlier Pura 80 generation. Huawei also brings 5G and eSIM support to this global lineup, something that was missing from several earlier global Huawei phones.

Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 7 dual-band, Bluetooth 6.0 with LDAC and L2HC, and NearLink E2.0. The devices run EMUI 16 based on AOSP 16 and come with 12GB of RAM plus 256GB or 512GB storage options.

Battery capacity reaches 6,000mAh for China and global markets, while the EU version is limited to 5,500mAh due to regulations. Charging is faster on the Pro Max at 100W wired and 80W wireless, compared with 66W wired and 50W wireless on the Pura 90s Pro.

Pricing and availability are rolling out in stages

According to information compiled by GSMArena, the Huawei Pura 90s Pro and Pro Max are already on sale in Malaysia and will soon arrive in Singapore. They have not yet appeared on Huawei’s European website, but pricing for some regions is already known.
