ChatGPT Hits a Morning Snag, OpenAI Confirms Login Problems and Error Spike

Author: Qoo Media

ChatGPT was hit by a widespread disruption on Wednesday morning, leaving many users unable to access the service normally. On desktop, the OpenAI platform briefly would not open at all and instead showed a technical error message.

The impact was immediate for users who depend on ChatGPT for daily work and other tasks. Mobile access remained available, but the app responded slowly and warned that requests were taking too long.

Desktop Access Failed While Mobile Stayed Partially Available

On PC, ChatGPT displayed the message “upstream connect error or disconnect/reset before headers. reset reason: connection termination.” That wording points to a connection failure on the service side, which prevented the page from loading properly.

Mobile users saw a different problem. The service could still be opened, but prompts and replies were delayed, with notices saying the request was taking a long time.

Platform Status Observed Issue
Desktop/PC Not accessible Upstream connect error or disconnect/reset message
Mobile Still accessible Slow response, request taking a long time

User Complaints Spread on X

The disruption quickly drew attention on X, where several users posted that ChatGPT was malfunctioning during the morning. Some of them only noticed the issue when they tried to use the service for routine work.

Account @zantruly said ChatGPT was having problems and that the disruption became clear while trying to make a meme. @atsvisuals_ also asked whether ChatGPT was actually down, while @DarkWebInformer reported that many users were seeing upstream connection failures and timeouts on the official site.

Downdetector Also Recorded Reports

Monitoring site Downdetector added weight to the complaints, recording 68 problem reports for the desktop version of ChatGPT. The figure suggests the outage was not isolated and affected a large number of people at roughly the same time.

Such a pattern usually signals a broader technical issue rather than a single-user access problem. It also helps explain why the disruption was visible so quickly across social media and outage trackers.

OpenAI Acknowledges System Issues

OpenAI later confirmed the problem on its official status page. Citing The Verge, the company said it was seeing a spike in errors affecting its platform.

OpenAI also said it was investigating login failures and intermittent disruptions affecting ChatGPT users. The company did not provide a detailed explanation for the root cause at the time the update was posted.

For now, users who rely on ChatGPT for work, creative ideas, or daily assignments may still encounter instability. Mobile access is still present, but response times remain sluggish and the service has not yet returned to fully normal operation.
