10 Xiaomi Devices Lose Update Support, Xiaomi 12 Owners Face Security Risks

Xiaomi has quietly expanded its End-of-Life list, and the change now affects 10 phones and tablets across the Xiaomi, Redmi, and Poco lines. Once a device enters that list, it no longer receives HyperOS updates, security patches, or bug fixes.

For users of the Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12 Pro, and Xiaomi 12S Ultra, the issue goes beyond missing new features. It also raises concerns about device security, privacy, and long-term reliability.

Which Devices Are Now Out of Support

The latest EOL list covers a mix of smartphones and tablets, with several regional models included. The affected devices are shown below.

Device Variant / Note Impact
Xiaomi 12 China, Indonesia, Russia No more HyperOS updates or security patches
Xiaomi 12 Pro China, Indonesia, Russia No more HyperOS updates or security patches
Xiaomi 12S Ultra China, Indonesia, Russia No more HyperOS updates or security patches
Xiaomi Pad 6 Added to the EOL list
Xiaomi Pad 6 Pro Added to the EOL list
Poco X5 5G Added to the EOL list
Poco X5 Pro 5G Added to the EOL list
Redmi Note 12T Pro Added to the EOL list
Redmi K60E Added to the EOL list
Redmi 10 5G Added to the EOL list

GadgetVIVA reported that not all global variants are affected. Most of the support cuts apply to regional models, especially in China, Indonesia, and Russia.

Why EOL Status Matters More Than It Sounds

Many users think the end of support only means losing cosmetic changes or new features. In practice, the bigger issue is the disappearance of regular security protection.

When a new vulnerability is discovered, Xiaomi will no longer issue fixes for devices that have already reached EOL. That makes the risk of exploitation higher, especially for people who use mobile banking, shop online, or store sensitive data on their phones.

Resale value is also likely to suffer. Older devices without security support are often seen as less safe by second-hand buyers, which can push prices down further.

Xiaomi 12S Ultra Stands Out

The Xiaomi 12S Ultra was one of the most notable camera flagships of 2022. It launched with Leica branding and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which made it a premium choice for many buyers.

That is why the end of support feels especially sharp for owners of that model. A device once purchased as a high-end flagship is now no longer backed by official security updates.

How to Check Whether a Device Is Still Supported

Owners do not need to guess their device status. The safest approach is to check the model code and compare it with Xiaomi Security Update Center.

Open Settings, go to About Phone, and note the device name and full model code. Then search that model on Xiaomi’s official support page to see whether a recent patch date is still listed or whether the device has already reached EOL.

If a device has not received updates since late 2025 or early 2026, it is likely that support has already ended. In that case, extra caution is recommended when using the phone for important tasks.

Xiaomi’s New Support Policy Does Not Cover These Older Models

In 2025, Xiaomi announced a longer support policy of 4 major OS upgrades and up to 6 years of security patches. However, that policy only applies to devices launched from 2025 onward, including the Xiaomi 15 series and Redmi Note 14.

Devices released in 2022 and 2023, including the models now entering EOL, still follow the older commitment of 2 to 3 years of support. That means the newer policy does not automatically extend the life of older phones and tablets.

For users still relying on a Xiaomi 12, Poco X5, or Redmi Note 12T Pro for work, banking, or social media, precautionary steps remain important. Avoid installing apps from unofficial sources, enable 2FA on key accounts, and consider moving to a supported device if the phone is used for sensitive activity.

If replacement is not yet an option, an EOL phone is best treated as a secondary device. It can still serve as a music player, TV remote, backup camera, or a child’s device with limited internet access.
