Motorists who leave their physical SIM driving licence at home can show a verified digital record from their phone during a road inspection. The option is available to holders of active licences that have been digitised through the Digital Korlantas Polri application.
The digital record includes a dynamic QR code for officers to view. It is intended as proof of ownership when the physical card has been left behind, not as a way to bypass licence requirements.
Active Licence Required Before Digitisation
A digital SIM is available only to people who already hold an active SIM. The physical card must first be added to the user’s application account and pass verification by the Korlantas Polri system.
This means motorists still need valid licence details before the digital version can be activated. Users should also check that the displayed licence number and licence category match their physical SIM before submitting verification.
Briptu Ecklesia of Korlantas Polri encouraged the public to use the service. In a statement published on the Korlantas Polri website, he said the digital document is stored on a mobile phone and can serve as proof of a SIM verified by the system.
How the Verification Process Works
The process begins by downloading Digital Korlantas Polri from Google Play Store or the App Store. Users can then sign in with an existing account or register until their account has been verified.
| Step | User action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Download the Digital Korlantas Polri application. |
| 2 | Sign in or register until the account is verified. |
| 3 | Select the digitisation menu on the main page. |
| 4 | Choose the national SIM document. |
| 5 | Scan the physical SIM card with the phone camera. |
| 6 | Confirm the licence number and category. |
| 7 | Select SIM verification and press “verify my SIM”. |
| 8 | Wait for validation by the Korlantas Polri system. |
Once the user selects SIM verification, the application provides the “verify my SIM” option to submit the request. The digital SIM becomes active and is stored in the application after the system completes validation.
Multiple Licence Categories in One Account
The application can store more than one SIM category in a single account. A motorist holding both SIM A and SIM C, for example, can manage both documents without separating them into different accounts.
This arrangement allows licence documents to be accessed more practically from a smartphone. During an inspection, the user can open the verified digital SIM corresponding to the licence category held.
Digital Korlantas Polri also provides integrated SIM administration services. The services listed include online SIM renewal, licence expiry notifications, and integration with the electronic traffic enforcement system, or ETLE.
Expiry notifications can help users monitor when a SIM renewal should be arranged. Motorists are nevertheless urged to continue following traffic rules to support safety, order, and smooth traffic flow on the road.
